Great work Rod, you're slowly but surely plugging away at the list.

Re: The army of Spires, landscaping
What's this? Another update? So soon after the last one...
Yes, a few WiP shots, since I think the painting will only start somewhere half march. And suggestions about improvements etc are always welcome.
On to the work itself. After getting some funny shaped pieces of styrofoam, my imagination started working. Resulting in this latest terrain feature. A bit of water effect will be added under the bridge. And more sand after it's been painted. It should work well enough in games, with plenty of room to fit models on there. The top level and bridge can house 10 (in 2x5) the other floors a few bit more. The basement is there to offer some extra access.
It should also work nicely as a model in Lord of the Rings games or mordheim, if I ever get around to playing that. (LoTR should be fun. I love the books, the models look great and the rules from what I've read should be fun)

And one to get an idea of the scale:
Hope you like it. Comment are welcome.

Re: The army of Spires, landscaping
I measured it during my lunchbreak. The base is about 40cm x 25 cm and 27,5 cm high. So, yeah. it's pretty big.
I was just thinking I should realy learn how to make skulls if I want to make more warhammer terrain. I don't think there are enough on there to pass the GW terrain criteria...

Re: Rods red and White HE- log
Minor update. When I posted the pictures of the spearmen/archers and updated the below list, I noticed that I almost had as many models finished and in progress as I still had left to do. Just 1 more model would put me on the half way mark. Not one to let such an opportunity slip, I decided to assemble my Caradryan model.
So, halfway there (if my count is correct)
index:
- finished
- asembled/in progress
- just owned
Characters
- Mage (elemental)
- Dragon mage
- Mounted BSB (plastic prince / bsb kit)
- GW noble (plastic prince / bsb kit)
- eagle mounted prince / bsb (secret santa)
- Caradryan (metal)
- Eltharion on Stormwing
- Dragon (half metal)
- Mage (IOB)
- Griffon (IOB)
Core
- 16 archers, FC
- 16 spearmen, FC
- 16 spearmen
- 8 archers (metal)
- 8 archers (plastic monopose)
- 8 spearmen (plastic monopose)
- 10 LSG (Island of Blood)
- 20 LSG (metal)
Special
- 10 SM, FC (latest metal)
- 10 WL, FC (latest metal)
- 5 SW, champ (latest metal)
- 1 Lion chariot
- 1 Tyranoc chariot
- 10 DPs, FC (latest metal)
- 2 SW, (previous metal)
- 5 SM (metal)
- 5 WL (metal)
- 26 PG, FC (metal)
- 10 SM (IOB)
- 5 Elyrian Reavers (IOB)
- 8 ER, FC (metal)
Rare
- RBT
- RBT
- RBT (last metal version)
- 2* GE
- 27 Maiden Guard, 2* fc
By my count 242 models, 78 done, 43 in progress and 121 left to go.
Edit: finished the 2 GE. So 80 done, 41 in progress

Re: The army of Spires, landscaping
After dropping a few hints etc here and there, it's time to show a few pics of my Major march event... And yes, that m deserves to be a capital in this case.
I had loads of fun and a great day. But it does take up an awfull lot of time
After this, the plog is back to warhammer of course. Almost have a pair of great eagles done. Keep an eye out on this space for pics in the next few days.

Re: The army of Spires, The airforce has arived
Managed to get some painting in too. As promissed, a pair of great eagles. Non-HE models are a lot faster to paint then HE apparently. No gems or fiddely detail bits. A nice change from the elves.
And a shot of the two of them together:
I tried to make them different while keeping them a bit in the same style. Didn't see a way of getting any red in there. But you can't have everything...
As always, interested in what you guys think. Let me know...

Re: The army of Spires, the airforce arives
Small update again. I've painted the shields of the spears a few posts up (I couldn't bothered before). So now they are truely done...
The guy in the back is one of the original spearelfs from p1 of my plog, which I used to remember how I painted them originally.
comments and thoughts are always welcome...

The latest addition to my list of Warhammer related toys...
Just in time for the new release. For starters, I'll probably mainly use it for bottom layers and large areas and the like. Later I do hope I can use it for some of the fancier things you can do with them... For now, I'll first be using it on the ruined tower terrain piece that (I think) is on the previous page.

Cheeky bugger, priming and base coats until you get used to it and the right sized needles then you should be able to do most of it.

That's the main plan indeed. Get the hang of it with priming and basing and slowly move to a bit more advanced things. Enough youtube tutorials around for ideas at least.
Thinning paint is issue #1. Paint needs to be much, much thinner then when painting by brush. Still figuring out the correct thickness. I might also look at different paints then GW ones, since they're a bit trick to apparently. All in all, good fun though.

Airbrush-ready paints are awesome. Pour it in, spray. Empty, clean a bit, pour next color in.rdghuizing wrote:That's the main plan indeed. Get the hang of it with priming and basing and slowly move to a bit more advanced things. Enough youtube tutorials around for ideas at least.

I use the new Minitaire series by Badger, not sure about supplies for them in the Europe though, they're a US company.
You could try Vallejo Model Air colors
Much less annoying than the thinning x;
I bought this set off Amazon, even if it says out of stock I got sent one a week after I placed my order and received it 2 weeks after that.

Thanks for the link Silver. Looks pretty awsome. I have thought about the Vallejo model air colors. There's a shop near my work that sells them. They might actually have the badger ones there (pretty big place). I'll have a look.
