Edit: I got as far as cutting off the back legs, trimming the griffon wings and checking that the fire wings would fit well enough. I can't remember whether I beheaded the griffon yet or not - I think I did.

Nice to hear I managed to inspire someone :)

Flames are indeed not hard to greenstuff. There are some excellent tutorials on the web on how to do them. Basic idea was (I think) put a blob of greenstuff where you want your flame. Insert sculpting tool, pull upward. Actually, before I started my conversion the most greenstuff work I had done was gap filling as well. Only one way you learn :)

I'm also getting excited to start work on some conversion project again. First a few other things to paint. Then on to some conversion I think.

I'm going to start a play with fire phoenix tonight after the gym :) I will keep you updated.

Meanwhile, I want to show you another 2 swordmasters I painted recently. They start to look quite ok together :) I can't wait to have all 10 (or even 20) painted.

First, the photo how I started working with them using airbrush. Just a base color, but that saved me a lot of time:

And after some hours of painting

Today I want to show you a small project I'm curently working on, it's a conversion of skycutter (or sky sloop in terms of 9th Age). I always wanted to use the dark eldar model for that purpose and recently I managed to get it cheap on Ebay.
As the title says, it is still a WIP, some elements are still missing, but you can see the overal direction where it goes;)

Please have a look;)

Yeah, seriously nice. That blue FTW again!

Personally, I much prefer the birdless concept.

Agreed on all counts. However, I do have to admit that it's hard for me to avoid the Return of the Jedi references with this.

So? I don't see anything wrong with the Star Wars similarities, as it was my inspiration  :)

Thanks for comments guys:)
Still I need to make a gunman in the front and the sail, so some updates are coming soon :)

Looking good mate. I remember when i started my conversion this idea was suggested (was it by you??), but I couldn't visualise it. You've captured it perfectly!

What the others said.

There's something very clean about your work Galharen, this model encapsulates that.

Ermahgerd. This is both the best dark eldar raider and high elf skycutter I've ever seen.

As a first step to returning to painting and gaming, I decided to build a fire phoenix from the old bits, because few years ago fire bird was a no-go compared to the frostheart (als made from bits here:D ). Now in 9th Age the situation turned and more odds are on the fire phoenix's side.
Here you have some photos:

Not bad. I'd say it looks better than the GW one. But that might be 90% due to your paint job. It's rare that I see one of theirs painted with half so nice of an effect.

I picked up two phoenixes off ebay when prices were low right when AoS came out. Still haven't painted them though, just not much call for then in 3rd edition (or mordheim).

Well I have so much spare models and bits that I can build probably everything I would need to have in the roster, that's why I made my phoenix. My come back is probably again temporary so I dont want to invest $$ again to buy mini and let.them collect the dust :)

However Last Sword elves are amazing! And I might break my promise

I know, I'm quite impressed with those as well. If I was just starting on elves now those would be my choice.

Looks great. The painting is indeed amazing. And I really like the base.

The model looks slightly unbalanced. The IOB griffon has the issue that its tail / backside is a bit small / cramped. Or perhaps the body is too large. Same with the legs, they're positioned a bit too far back. It gives the models a slightly awkward look. You manage to hide it reasonably well I must say.

The main thing that does bug me most as I look at the model is the joint between the wing and the body. There is a black line there that doesn't fit.

Other then that, great model.
