A colorful Dark elf.

#1 Post by Silver »

Well continuing with my theme of Yellow & Black with other details (clothes and trinkets) having different colors.. I started painting my Corsairs.. which adds 2 more colours: the Sea Dragon Cloak! O:

This is the result of the first one I've painted, and I like it.
Cloak's red was done with White undercoat, devlan mud wash, baal red wash, GWShop old Red Ink. Gives a very nice red.

It looks okay, but the reliance on inks instead of shading/highlighting has left with a slightly messy result, not as much distinction between colors as there can be.
For the dwarfs, there was only this. Hammerson met Grombrindal’s gaze, and the White Dwarf nodded slowly. If it must be done, let it be done well. Whether they were dead or alive, that was the only way dwarfs knew how to do anything.

And Grombrindal said "10 from the back, yeah?"

ummm i think it's because of a bad photo. the background and lighting is a bit too yellow-ish :)

I like the dragon cloak a lot. The extra color is nice. I agree that the yellows look a little messy due to the wahes, so you might give old fashioned highlighting a try on the yellow. I find that in general the washes don't look good on lighter colors or smooth areas. In general, though, he looks great!

Yeah the lighting was bad at the time, need to get a better picture.
Wash on yellow enhanced it quite a bit on my other minis and in 'real' this corsair also.

Been working on these 2 Beastmasters tonight, not sure on the shoulder pad highlights but so far its okay, especially with the Runes on them o: I love how it turned out.

I still have the armor and weapons to do, not sure yet on the Boots - they have some plating but they look more like Leather boots... so I guess they'll be brownish instead of black like the plating O:!

Also, the whip.. I've no clue what color to paint it o_o agh.

Man! The red wash makes it look like they soak the sea dragon cloaks in Hydra blood before battle. Really cool!
Wow, those runes on the shoulder guards are really sharp!
Did you free hand those?
If so, did you use a pen?
I've got to get my hands on those new Foundation Paints/Inks.
Oh, and I really like the Corsair. Those models are still really cool. There is one that I'm still looking for: Corsair unit Champ with war axe and his sea dragon cloak wrapped round his face. That model is so awesome!
Anyway, Silver, keep it up!
