Alright folks, I'm taking the High Elves out for one more go at a GT in 7th edition. Last year I did well with the Star Dragon, so this year I'm attempting to win with a magic heavy list. But I'm a sucker for Dragons so I'm bringing the dragon mage.

Lvl 4 Archmage w/ Seerstaff, Scroll, Ring of Fury, Steed
Lvl 2 Dragon Mage w/ Silver Wand, Golden Crown
Noble BSB w/ Reaver Bow, Enchanted Shield, Barded Steed Dragon Armor
20 Spears w/ Full command
10 Archers
14 Swordmasters w/ Full Command, Banner of Sorcery, Dragonhorn
14 Swordmasters w/ Full Command, Banner of Ellyrion, Skeinsliver
3 RBTs
Eagle

I'm light on fear/terror protection, but I expect there to be fewer fear/terror causers due to the fact that lists are subject to player ranked comp at the end of the tournament. I'm tempted to drop the skiensliver for the talisman of loec, but going first with a magic/shooting army can be very powerful.

Thoughts?

Heavy magic, a Dragon and 28 SM; I like this list!
*copy-paste* :)

Serious, I think you'll find yourself lacking in speed and vulnerable on the flanks, but magic, shooting and the Dragon should lighten that burden a little.
Best give your BSB a lance.

Actually the Noble has a lance, I just forgot to list it. Good catch.

I think DP and/or chariots are a better idea than second SM-unit. Dp are a better sorcery banner carrier. Take GoC instead of Dragon Horn. After that take 10 points somewhere and fit Lion banner to spears. SM-GoC and spear-lion banner is waaaay better than dragon horn. Play spears always with the magic banner.

Why do you think DPs are a better sorcery banner carrier? They have better armor and slightly more mobility, but fewer wounds and do less damage over time.

My first list used the standard of balance, lion standard and gem of courage for a total of 80 points spent on fear/terror/panic protection. My current thought is that I can replace all of those with the dragonhorn for a net bonus of 55 points to spend on other things. Could you describe any experiences you have had with the dragon horn not working for you?

I personally would try to squeeze in a Tiranoc & Lion Chariot.

The reason the DPs are a better Banner of Sorcery Carrier is they survive longer and can chose their combats.

well, DPs have also better LD. Which is useful when yoi are not wielding psych protection magic item. The drawback of dragonhorn is that you have to choose a turn when you use it.
