This is a small update on what I have tweaked on my magic heavy list from what i posted a few months ago. i have had quite a bit of success with it so far but any list is subject to criticism
archmage rides with the pg unit, bsb rides with the dp unit. lemme know what you think!

It all looks pretty sensible. Dragon Mage is controversial but some guys swear by him. Shame to not use 50 points of Archmage allocation.

I like it but if you want Magic heavy why not go with 2 standard Level 2's rather than the Dragon Mage give one the Seerstaff, the other the Jewel of Dusk and the Silver wand to the Archmage. Then stick in a Banner of Sorcery somewhere.
That combo would give you --> 11 + D3 PD and 6 DD

the dragon mage shines in that it really boosts the magic phase with its bonus pd if it casts 3 spells, so i'd still get the 11 +d3 pd each turn. in addition, in a pinch it can become that extra combat unit that SA mentioned could be missing.
if i know i'm matched up against another magic heavy army, high magic allows me to have drain magic, 5dd+ scroll. that's usually enough to hold it off enemy magic until i can take out the his/her casters in combat.

Overall, I think you've got some nice synergy to your list. It does look a unit shrt, but 1000 points of characters will do that
Kudos to you if 1 scroll has been working. Looks to me like another one on your Archmage could be beneficial though.

there have definitely been times where that extra scroll would have helped but at this point i'm not sure what i'd take out. every unit has a special purpose and if the opinion of too few combat units perpetuates, i can't afford to take away from those units.
problems that pop up are more brain farts on my part than luck or usefullness of the unit:
sometimes the swordmasters get shot up before they can get into combat but that's just because i wouldn't properly screen with my hardier pg or dp units.
the eagle would get shot up or charged early if i wasn't careful with movement.
the frail dragon mage would sometimes get shot off the back if my reckless attempt to break a ranged unit fails. (even terror + burning head + breath weapon + fiery blast casualties just isnt' enough sometimes...damn dwarves)
i'm definitely curious to see which unit you guys would advise me to take and what the sub out would be.

Another update to magic list! I found too many points were wasted on a unit that i didn't want to get into combat anyway, so i bolstered other units by taking away from that one. My primary concern is a lack of models on the field. Thoughts?

I think you may have gone too far with the PG reduction. See if you can work your way back to 14 of those. Maybe start by dropping the champ and muso on the DP's and maybe the helm of fortune too. I know PG can be hardy but if you are bunkering your general in there you should protect him a bit more. Plus you don't want them to get shot up and run away--4+ wards only go so far.
I'm a fan of the power stone on the dragon mage. Should you roll spell 5 or 6 it gives you that additional umph to cast it in the back half of the game.
