Meet the members of Ulthuan
While surfing the web for various warhammer-related things, I came across this topic - http://www.bugmansbrewery.com/topic/318 ... look-like/ - and thought it would be a good idea to have one of our own! As far as I know no such topic exists at the moment (if it does it's well hidden away!). It's kind of funny considering how much we interact (certainly way more than I did with a lot of the people I went to school with for 13 years!), that we don't really know eachother. By now I'm even used to referring to your nicknames when discussing warhammer with local players!
Anyways, I guess I'll start!
My name's Jarle and I'm turning 24 in a couple of months. I'm doing my last year at university (master's degree in software engineering) in a city called Trondheim (pretty far North in Norway) where I live with my girlfriend.
Picture taken in a chess park in Geneva on a vacation a couple of years back. I got my ass handed to me thoroughly by the old men hanging out in that park
Apart from playing Warhammer I enjoy skiing (downhill of course), swimming, playing volleyball, videogames, watching movies, TV-series (I can go through a season per day if it's good enough!) and playing other types of games (anything from Bridge to basic boardgames).
So - let us know who you are, what you look like and what you do

My name's Larry and I'm 26. I work at Blizzard Entertainment and live in Aliso Viejo, CA.
My LGS is the Games Workshop in Portola Plaza. I'm still pretty new there because I just bought a house! I still frequent the LA Bunker in Westminster, but it's quite a drive away..
My first and favorite army is High Elves, followed by Ogres and Vampire Counts. I also play Warhammer 40K (Blood Angels, Space Wolves and Dark Eldar), Warmachine (Cygnar) and Spartan Games (Thaniras Elves, Aquan Prime). I own and run a competitive gaming blog called HERO's Gaming Blog based on miniatures gaming. You can find some of my other work on this forum here. My view on wargaming is competitive, but I've softened up a lot as of late.
My other hobbies include computers, eating great food, traveling, sports, TCGs and hanging out with my wife.

@Curu
Great idea. Its something that can bring a lot of personalization to the realm of the internet and promote civil discourse.
I'll stand with Curu:
My name is Jason. I'm 28, married and the father of Elizabeth Mary, pictured above. She was 8 months old here; she's 21 months now.
This is myself with my wife, Megan (right flank) and her best friend (left flank). Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts, concentration Drawing and Painting. I was an U.S. Army Infantry officer with the 7th CAV. I'm currently a reserve company commander, Domestic Manager (full time parent) and prowling for a defense contractor career. We've been very blessed with my wife's career. Its enabled us to make the great choices we have and I've loved the time I've had with my little one.
Hobbies: reading, art-driven, weight-training and physical activity, marksmanship and war games (both computer and tabletop). We reside in Kalamazoo, MI, U.S. at the moment.
I hope this isn't too many photos.

Hi Ulthuan.
When I'm not living my other life as John Rainbow I go by Alex. I'm a PhD student (Combustion) at Penn State in the USA although I'm actually British (American girlfriend, hence the move, long story). I've been playing Fantasy for about 9 months now after I got lumped with a mates IoB HE and got addicted. I'd previously played 40K a lot and moonlight as a Blood Angels player when I have the time. I play with a bunch of guys in the local area , not really a club as such.
If I ever have spare time (Warhammer + PhD = busy, or maybe just PhD but anyways...) I enjoy playing/watching Rugby, swimming, hiking and other outdoorsy type stuff.
P.S. Great idea Curu.

Re: Meet the members of Ulthuan
We do have a 'post your picture' thread in the Off Topic, but this is nice because its like a catalogue of active posters.
You guys all look remarkably more well-adjusted and normal than I expected though... I shall now bring a screeching halt to that.
I'm 27, live in southern Vermont, and am a happily unemployed shut-in. My hobbies include, besides Warhammer, swordsmanship, collecting weapons, training, hiking, kayaking, fishing, making clothing, avoiding sunlight, reading, and I've just taken up knife throwing. I also enjoy cooking, mixing my own tea and doing house work, and hope to be a stay at home housecat/monk. :3
My other goals for the future include training my girlfriends (not pictured) to fight, moving to a secluded cabin/remote fastness in the Canadian rockies, killing bigfoot in a fist fight via hyper combo finish, finding my reincarnated harem from a past life, and escaping reality completely. :3

Sure great idea, my name is Andrew and I'm from the UK... guess you guessed that much lol. I live in Lincolnshire but have moved around a bit; originally from Berkshire, went to uni in Southampton and then Nottingham (right next to warhammer world!) and am trying to look for a job in Yorkshire somewhere so I can settle there with my girlfriend who is from there...
Here we are together
And on holiday together
And here is my son scoring his first ever try for the British Lions, he's their youngest ever player you know?

Re: Meet the members of Ulthuan
Hi, I'm 21. I go by Drew or Andrew and I currently live in Malta. I go to university here taking a bachelor of commerce course. I used to be pretty involved in extra curricular hobbies beside warhammer but I recently bought an apartment which has eaten up my free time trying to maintain. That and also the time I spend at the pub.
I played high elves for about 7 years up until last year when I switched (permanently, I believe) to Dwarfs.
Here's another shot showing I grow some whiskers like a true dwarf.
For the dwarfs, there was only this. Hammerson met Grombrindal’s gaze, and the White Dwarf nodded slowly. If it must be done, let it be done well. Whether they were dead or alive, that was the only way dwarfs knew how to do anything.
And Grombrindal said "10 from the back, yeah?"

Re: Meet the members of Ulthuan
Hi everyone. I am Eric from Seattle, Washington. Below is a photo of my wife and I. I am just starting to play Warhammer, after seriously getting into painting about 6 months ago. I had purchased the 6th edition starter several years ago, and while I enjoyed painting somewhat, never really got into it. Pulled the box out again last summer and am loving it.
Outside of Warhammer, I am a federal agent, and work investigating crimes such as money laundering, tax fraud, and ponzi schemes. I also worked as a soccer referee for several years, working youth, adult, high school and college games. Other interest include reading (fantasy novels of course), computer games, and sleep. =)

Hey, gang. My name is Kevin and I live in the suburbs of Chicago, IL, USA with my wife. I'm 33--oldest so far, yeesh, and work in a cubicle farm planning and analyzing retail inventory for a nationwide chain. A far cry from my Bachelors of Fine Arts in Acting, but it pays the bills, ya know?
I love to travel (the pic below is from our visit to France in 2010), cook, read and just generally enjoy life. I play only High Elves and am wondering if I want to pick up a 40K army in the near future. We also hate the suburbs and can't wait to move back to the city first chance we get--of course, that hinges on the vitality of a depressed housing market. Also, wouldn't mind a job overseas for a few years! Always looking for an adventure...

I saw that Bugman's post once. I'm glad that we are getting one up. I really have enjoyed what I have learned from y'all.
My name is Micah Pearce. I currently am a Mathematics grad student at Texas Tech University. I have lived most of my life in Lubbock except for school/jobs during a few summers in Dallas, Utah, Pennsylvannia and a 2 years stint in Southern California.
I love playing warhammer and am currently on a soccer team called 'The Sloths.'

Hey gang,
I'm Jay. 31, born in Brooklyn, living in Long Island and trying my best to avert critical global meltdown due to stupidity (ie - I teach Economics).
The wife I just got married last summer and bought a new house. I built a snazzy gaming table for myself (see pic below!). I enjoy paying beggars to dance, long walks in dark alleys and sniffing gasoline fumes.
And a wedding picture

Re: Meet the members of Ulthuan
Haha this is great.
Me, Rowing.
Me and my big sister.
Hey guys, I am John Gatti (everyone I know calls me Gatti, even my girlfriend, actually, which is a little weird). I am currently 24 and am originally from New Jersey (Philly side), but now live in Durham, North Carolina. I am in a Masters Program at Duke University for Biomedical Engineering. Formerly, I was a physics major in college at Georgetown University, and I wish to go back to school after my Masters for an MD/PhD and go into Radiation Oncology (they have GAMMA KNIVES! HOW IS THAT NOT THE COOLEST THING EVER?!?!?!)
When I am not studying or playing warhammer/painting, I generally can be found rowing, or on a bike in some mountain range. I have been rowing for 10 years now, and so it basically dictates my life outside of school (but I try to squeeze in as much Warhammer as I can on a daily basis!).

Hi guys! My name is Grant. 31 Years old, from the Chicago suburbs originally. I'm married with two children; we just celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary. I'm an active duty USAF officer currently stationed in Hawaii.
My non-gaming interests are doing stuff with our local church, reading (I enjoy books on Christianity, history, politics and astronomy) and having family fun.
I've been into gaming since I was about 12; started playing Star Fleet Battles which a friend and I discovered at the LGS back in '91 or 92. Did that for a long time, played in GENCON tournaments, etc. Eventually it got stale and I played Magic the Gathering for several years until I went to college and quit. I got back into gaming a few years ago when I stoped randomly in a game store and saw people playing Warhammer 40K. I got into that (I play Grey Knights, Vanilla SM and Tau) and recently picked up Fantasy for a change of pace.
Nice to 'meet' you all!

Well on board with this!
My name is Stu and I live in an area of Manchester called Chorlton. I moved here about 13yrs ago to study Economics and I am now a Consultant for large finance company.
One of my favourite past times is sitting.
I recently realised that I no longer like films without a least one of the following featured throughout:-
Zombies, Vampires, Mr T, Aliens, Alien Robots, 90's Fighter Jets, John McClean, Mutants, Clint Eastwood/Robert Redford/Paul Newman, Cyborgs of any description, Boxing, Schwarzenegger (So long as he is not pregnant or Christmas Shopping), Talking Mammoths and Sloths, Highly evolved Apes, Artefacts at a Museum that come to life or a House tied to some Balloons

Hey all, i'm an old time member but more recently a more common lurker. This topic rocked, so I have to take part.
This is me in the best halloween costume EVER. I was told that I could really be this person if I wanted to, since the wig and stache were the same color as my real hair.
And the real me.
I'm currently a behavior specialist working for the state of Virginia in Fairfax. Been playing warhammer since I was 11, and although there are ups and downs with warhammer as a hobby, I can't ever shake it!
Guilty pleasure: La La by Ashley Simpson...don't judge.
New music interest: Kimbra...oh and for all you Tool fans i'm going to see them in concert on February 3rd, boo yah!

Re: Meet the members of Ulthuan
The name is Daniel, 26 as of January, and i'm a senior, graduating this fall with my B.S. in Computer Science / Information Security.
A bit of info on my senior project this fall: http://www.ulthuan.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=38174
I only started Warhammer tabletop a little over a year ago (although I played Warhammer Online from Beta onwards). Oddly enough, I was probably going to have played Orcs had we not found the Isle of Blood starter set. A friend of mine is Skaven, so it was a great deal for him, and I decided to switch, splitting the cost of the 100 dollar box set with him. I've tried a Greenskin army, and honestly, I enjoy HE so much more. In the past year I have gathered over 4000 points worth of Elves, between box-sets (Isle of Blood, Batallion, Army), and just buying in bulk and older model kits on discount. I purchased a box of older Silver Helms for 10 dollars (discounted because of lack of horses), and got home to find rather than the 6 Silver Helms I was expecting, there were 11 Metal Dragon Princes, a metal Mage on Horse, two metal Swordmasters (Bladelord and Musician), a Lothern Sea Guard metal standard bearer, and a Spearmen metal standard bearer last printed in 1992. For $10 USD. Sometimes, my LGS is a blessing. Other times, a curse. They almost never restock, and since there's no "official" Games-Workshop outlet here in Arkansas, anything I buy from the web site is not only free shipping, but tax-free too.
I recently quit Magic: The Gathering after realizing that just ONE of my decks had grown to just above $1000 USD.
If ya have a PS3, you can add me. My PSN id is the same as my screen name here.

I've played this game before.
G'day, my name is Greig, but most call me Greg. I live on the Sunshine Coast in sunny Queensland. I turn 31 in October and I'm a labourer in a steel shop. Re: Meet the members of Ulthuan
Great topic, interesting to see / read about the different people here
Best photo I could find of myself online:
Don't normally look like this, it was at a party.
Hi, I'm Roderick, which is usually shortened by people to whatever they feel like (anything from Ro and Rod to Bob...). I'm 29 since last december and live in the Netherlands, together with my very lovely girlfriend. (who doesn't play WH and thinks it's a slightly silly hobby, but tolerates it anyway).
I have a physics bachelor and a Science & business management masters degree and I'm currently working at an insurance company, though I'm looking for a more interesting job.
i got into warhammer somewhere beginning 2009 when money became more available (due to not being a student anymore). Mainly painting (slowly) and playing when time allows... I enjoy finding old HE models and once I have painted more of what I own, I'll start looking for more of it.
When not bothering people here I enjoy traveling (I get around a lot, including living in both australia and finland for a year), scuba diving, reading (mainly fantasy, but anything with letters will do), kiting and cooking (or eating good food for that matter)

Re: Meet the members of Ulthuan
My name is Neal. I am 29, from San Diego, CA. I work as an attorney licensed in CA.
I originally got into Warhammer in 1995, played for about a year but lost interest since it was really difficult for us to play people other than my small gaming group. Got back into it about 5 months ago when a good friend of mine and I were talking about the hobby aspect of Warhammer. We both decided to get back into it, now with proper funding and transportation to go to games at the local shops. Having played so long ago, the game is basically completely new to me since the rules are much more complex than I remember (although that could also be my youth at the time as well). Also, I figured that a hobby such as Warhammer would be a more productive hobby since video games have gotten increasingly expensive and less rewarding. You can only go through so many games before they begin to repeat themes, play styles, etc. Warhammer, however, evolves and changes over time and the models can last for a long time with proper care. I love those qualities.
When not working or reading strategies on HE here or elsewhere, I enjoy being a foodie, traveling with my wife, throwing a tennis ball for my dachshund, swimming, hiking and rock climbing.

Re: Meet the members of Ulthuan
They're all afraid people are going to hit on them so they can have a girlfriend to play Warhammer with all the time. That's my dream anyway. Maybe its my fault. Maybe I should stop incriminating myself. :3Tribun wrote:where are the Hot maids of ulthuan?;)
No gentlemen, I'm afraid I'm the prettiest one here by far, at least by my standards - your hair... its... its simply too short. :3
Edit: I do like all your wives and girlfriends though.
Edit: In a platonic way, of course!
Re: Meet the members of Ulthuan
I think I'll up the ante in the "Oldest Poster in Ulthuan" contest. I guess that's fitting, since I'm about to be a grandfather.
I'm Dave, I'm 38, and I'm a physicist working at a company that makes devices related to radiation oncology and particle accelerators. My other big hobby is inventing, which eats far more of my money, time, and garage space than Warhammer ever could. I also enjoy soccer (football to you euros), video games, and the SCA/EMP [http://www.sca.org/][http://www.empiremp.com/].
I first played WH back in '89 or so (3rd edition) and 40K also for a few years, before taking a few decades off for school and career. I enjoy playing high elves because I like the flexibility of the army, and because I can relate to good guys who come off as a bit arrogant. Somehow, when growing up I seemed to project an "I think I'm smarter than you" field, even when I didn't think anything like that. So I know what it is like to be perceived as arrogant. You might think that since I'm basically a mad scientist who likes to play with high voltage and radiation that I would be all about the skaven, but I have a pretty good sense of honor and honesty, so they just don't appeal to me as much. I still want to stick a Tesla coil on a warp lightning cannon, though, just for fun.
My wife also plays Warhammer occasionally. She used to play Druchii, but switched to Dwarfs because she thinks the magic rules are too complicated. She liked 7th ed. but hasn't really taken to 8th. Outside of Warhammer, she likes martial arts, collecting bones, throwing knives and axes, running faster than me, and gardening. She's a real weird mix of hard-core toughness and gentle kindness, and is the most awesome person I've ever met.

Oh well.. Why not. I'm Kris, also known as Noodsy. I'm 19, live in the Netherlands and I currently work the graveyard shift at the post office. Soon going back to Uni to study Game Development. I don't actually play warhammer, never have even. My hobbies are making music, online gaming, reading, writing, shunning the light, clubbing 'till dawn and considering my country I should probably add frequent drug abuse to the list to avoid certain stereotypes..
My goal in life is to be happy. Which is something I'm almost always. =3 Also, moving out of parental nest soon.

Hey guys,
My name's Mathew (just one t, weird, huh? ), I'm 19, I'm currently studying at the University of Queensland. (That's in Australia, for those whose geography fails them) I'm heading for a Bachelor of Science with a major in Physics. I started into Warhammer back at the end of 6th edition (I was like 12 ) but school kinda robbed me of free time. Now that I'm at Uni I have a lot more free time and hence I swung back into Warhammer in earnest just after the beginning of 8th. Other than Warhammer, my other hobbies include Warhammer, Warhammer, and Xbox. Lots of other things are fun too, like taking long walks, and sitting alone in quiet places, getting more inebriated than the surgeon general would advise, but Warhammer and xbox definitely take the cake of my most implemented time wasting devices
This is me and my lovely girlfriend:

I'm Nick. I'm 29 and live in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Here's a picture of me in my motorcycle jacket with my fiancee. I'm the tall one.

@jwg20: I rowed some during college. I fondly remember the "Head of the Horseman" in sub-freezing temeratures on Halloween.
You guys are awesome; it's nice to be in the company of adults for at least one of my hobbies (the other being Super Smash Brothers).
