Greetings

I am Lochlann and I am returning to WHFB after a long hiatus for family and living in several locations where WHFB was not in vogue.

I am finally settling upon a family friendly army (mini's) after longrunning and ancient affliations with the Forces of Destruction.

I will try to be more honorable and be a little more civilized than I have been.

Lochlann

Hello folks,

My name is Craig, I'm from Edinburgh and I'm just looking at getting back into WFB. WFB was my first wargame, having first picked up the big pre-boxed set rulebook when I was about 10 or 11 (after seeing the warhammer pictures in White Dwarf issue 145, which I bought because it had HeroQuest and Space Crusade on the cover). I bought minis, and caked them in paint as kids do, but didn't actually get to play until after the Elves/Goblins boxed set came out a couple of years later. I played for a while, eventually switching to 40k, then stopped gaming when I was about 16 or 17.

Fast forward 12 or 13 years to a couple of years ago, and I found I had a gaming itch to scratch again. I got back into 40k, and I'm glad I did so, but I still found myself casting covetous glances over towards those blocks of ranked up High Elves in their shiny shiny armour. The new book with the Phoenixes and Skycutters looks like it's finally tipped me over the edge.

So I'm here, hoping to make use of the collected wisdom of those who know better :)

Hi All,

Names Dan and I'm another of these who has recently returned to the game after a long break (10 ish year's - uni and the like) currently residing in Wiltshire. High Elves have always been my Warhammer force and I first dug em out of the loft a few months ago when I'd found a new opponent. So the new book coming out is ideal timing really! Have always kind of had the itch to get back into it and not regretting it one bit (other than maybe the bank balance!).

Still getting to grips with the 8th edition rules, plenty of change since I used to play way back when! Regular opponent plays Dwarves so any pointers on dealing with that pesky anvil much appreciated! (I'll be scouring the tactics forum!). Have a pretty decent sized army to select from (comfortably 4k pts now they've moved SH and ER to core) although shed loads of painting ahead of me!

From what i've seen so far it seems a good community with some very knowledgeable folk! :-)

Hello all,

I'm a long-time Bretonnian player (been fielding Brets for 14 years) from about 60 or so miles east of New York City, and have been pretty intensely involved over at the Round Table of Bretonnia. I've always been an envier of all things Elven. After combining the contents of the Isle of Blood box with an old friend's unwanted HE collection, I'm inspired to start working on an Asur army. The fluff of Nagarythe/the Shadowlands is particularly appealing to me, and I'm currently fleshing out characters and background information before I paint things up. I've got a few friends who I regularly play small games with, and have been trying in vain to get my wife to join us. She's a true lover of mythology, and when I showed her the new Phoenix kit, I saw a glimmer of hope that indicated she might, just might, want to roll High Elves (she's an elf lover in most fantasy literature as well).

So although I'm a long-winded, peasant-oppressing, inadvertant Isha-worshipping, smelly human at heart, my ultimate goal is to paint up a glittering army from the Shadowlands with some solid fluff behind it. Then, my wife will find the hobby irresistable.

REALLY looking forward to becoming a small part of this vibrant and talented community of gamers!

Hey there,

I just jumped into Fantasy. I've been playing 40k for years and avoiding Fantasy; however this new book and these irresistibly gorgeous models just pulled me in. And man did I get pulled in. Over the last few days I went from an Island of Blood set, to a new battalion, to winning about 150 models in an ebay auction...

I've got about all the models I need, I'll be buying two more Phoenixes, and a box of Phoenix Guard next weekend at Wargames Con in Austin, and I'll be set.

I'll probably start a post detailing my progress of building and painting the army. And look for my introductory battle reports over at Bell of Lost souls. We intend to film battle reports of my army going up against Larry's Dark Elves in a fluff filled rise through various point levels. 1k, 1500k, 2k, and finally 2500k as I build and paint.

I can't remember the last time I was this excited about a hobby project and getting models onto the battlefield. I'm already taking advantage of tactics posts, and lists posts.

Hey folks, returning WHFB player here. I started the hobby in 6th edition with an army of our beloved Asur, stuck around for 7th and played a handful of games at the beginning of 8th until life happened. With the release of the new book (and the revelation that there are WHFB players at the game shop a block from my place) I intend on deploying my High Elves once more!

I'm in Pittsburgh, if anyone from the area would like to play a game or two

Hi!

I'm ceeprime, I'm 17 and I'm from France (South, near Spain), so please don't mind my mistakes  .

I play only WFB, but i've got a few 40k models because I used to play orks until 6th ed. came out.
I stared my HE army, which is my main army about year before IoB. I've got 5k+ points without any equipment.

I'm going to start a big painting project for this summer since i'm not going anywhere...

Hello fellas.

I'm Wallack and I'm from Spain :P

I currently collect (play wouldn't be correct) High Elves but let me tell you a little bit of my WH background (very short).

I always liked WH when I saw them on the stores and when I was a child I told my mother, buy me Warhammer please! And she, as the best mother in the world she is, bought me WH. But she, as a mother she is, didn't understand and bought me Warhammer Quest.

I asume it was because it was cheap with a lot of miniatures compared with other boxes and she wouldn't be able to choose an army for me, anyways I didn't know anything about WH so is okay... I painted only the barbarian, I was a child, I didn't know how to paint and I didn't have the patience.

I have almost everything from the WH Quest except for the minis

When I grew up and I got a job and money, I went back to the hobby with Bretonnia, and then with Chaos Warriors ... but I bought so many things that was giving me really pain to paint as for me, is very difficult to paint if I see that I have 200 miniatures left to paint. I prefer to buy 5 and paint them, and then the next 5 (except for things like Island of Blood that obviously worth it).

At the end I sold almost all my minis and bought the Island of Blood and start painting again!

I've been lurking the forums a lot and thought it was the time to say hello!

Kind regards and sorry if my english is wrong sometimes (I know is awesome but I can make mistakes XD)

Hi, i am Yipikayey, from Spain. I am a 30 year old gamer, who has been playing wfb and 40k since the beginning of my teen years. I am currently back to wfb since a very big hiatus (I really despised 7th edition), and decided to start HE as my main army because i like to be very active on each phase of the game. After a few practice games, i can say i am really pleased with my choice, and got a lot of blood islands and more things to be able to play at a good point level while i continue to collect to play what i really want to play with HE, msu combat lists and avoidance shooty lists, since i find both very interesting, challenging and fun to play.

Greetings,
I'm a 15 year "old" born in Berlin but I currently live in Kuala Lumpur since last week, planning to start a High Elves army pretty soon, currently I'm just trying to get into the topic.
I'm painting "normal" 1/72 and 1/35 minis since about 2-3 years...

I already have a question but don't know wich (sub)forum is the right one to post it, so I'll do it here:
I'm thinking about including LotR elven archers in my army to depict units from different provinces/cities...I also somehow like the LotR elves :D

Please try to ignore any mistakes I make, concerning my English, as I am nit a native speaker... :D

Welcome the forum 0cular.

As for your question, it can either go in the painting and modelling forum or in this one (warhammer general). Generally speaking, if something does end up in the wrong forum we can just move it for you to the right one.

Normally most people don't have an issue with using different models in your army, as long as it is clear what they are. Personally, I love the look of the LotR models and I'm still planning on one day starting a LotR army. The models are a bit smaller in scale the WH ones, so that is something to watch out for. But I see no problem with using them in your army, especially if you decide to use them to depict different provinces or background for the models.

Hi, just joined a few days ago. I think I used to have an account many years ago when I was an active warhammer player but I couldn't remember the details so just created a new account.

I've got a huge high elf army and several other armies as well but I think the elves will always be my favourite (followed closely by dwarves). Haven't played warhammer since 6th edition but I hear a lot has changed. Might be interested in giving the newest edition a go ... at the moment, my gaming group plays Armies of Arcana instead, which is an awesome fantasy wargame.

I'm in the Toronto area in Canada. Anyone else in the GTA? I'm always looking for new players.

Long-time lurker finally joining the Asur ranks.

I started playing Fantasy with general Undead and moved on to Vampire Counts later. Pretty strange as I've always been called an "elfophile" but for some reason I decided to embrace my Goth feelings more that fateful day I first walked into a GW store. Just FYI I always play elves in RPG's(both tabletop and behind the screen) and generally have always just liked them.

But back to Warhammer. It wasn't long until I started my first elven army; Dark Elves. Still on the dark side of things  This was about the time the first Vampire Counts book came out. On a dare I also started Skaven though I hardly play them anymore; fully painted and all but I feel they are not so challenging at the moment and people whine about how tough they are which takes the fun out of playing them.

Wood elves followed in sixth and now finally with their last book in 8th and the yummy new phoenix kit I finally, FINALLY, started with High Elves.

I also play 40K, Emperors Children, Iron Hands with lots of converted AdMech stuff thrown in and (surprise, surprise) Dark Eldar though my priority is Fantasy as I like it a lot more. Also, I didn't play for a long time as I had to wait ages for the new DE codex, my fully converted EC wasn't legal anymore after the new codex and the other army just takes forever to convert. 40K is definitely on the back-burner for now too. I only play with my DE lately and very, very few games. I'm just not really into it with the huge codex creeps/power level balance.

I"m also into Battlefleet Gothic(AdMech), Mordheim(Dark Elves and Undead), Inquisitor(54 scale) and am starting two new Bloodbowl teams...Dark Elves and High Elves. I play every Sunday with a bunch of guys and we switch between specialist games every few weeks. It's nice to have a group together for these games!

With my High Elves I started out with two Isle of Blood sets and a Phoenix. I'm building an Eataine/phoenix themed list with lots of reds and yellows in the painting. I do not use gold but bronze and silvers washed with blue to get that special silvery feeling.
I know some consider this heresy but my Sea Guard are also red and yellow with only the waves on their robes white and blue.

Next purchase will be Phoenix Guard. I use the Swordmasters as stand-in models for the time being but the PG have performed so well for me, and obviously part of my theme, so they will be bought soon.

So yes I have a lot of armies but I've been playing for quite a while. With the Asur I now finally have that last army I always wanted. :)

Hello!

I've been on this forum for quite awhile reading different discussions and what not, finally decided to join in on the fun! I play Tomb Kings right now but my small group of gaming buddies is starting up an escalation league and I've picked High Elves as my next army, so I'm looking forward to be pestering all the veterans with questions :>

Hi everyone !
I've been reading this forum for about 6 months ( not exactly a lot but it is something , right ? ) and i finally decided to join the community . I'm 18 years old and i'm from italy ( rome ) , i've been a magic ( the gathering ) player for quite a long time and 1 year and half ago i bought my first ( and most likely last ) warhammer army ( never going to buy anything from warhammer 40k ) , which is the perfect army we all know everything about :D . I'm actually going through a lot of problems since playing magic made me a " rule addicted " ( magic has ALWAYS a solution to each situation about the game ) and having learned a lot rules ( the warhammer rulebook is nothing compared to the full magic one , you can easily find it online on the wizards of the coast site ) made me uncomfortable with the whfb rules , that are more " friendly looking " and harder to master , with in game situations that are still not really clear ( until faq release , i assume ) . Even though i started actually playing only few weeks ago i'd really like to improve my skills in general ( including : rules , strategy and painting ) and who knows , maybe some day i will play in some tournament .
Due to the fact that i'm lazy i'm most likely going to start an army battle blog , so i'm forced to examine every situation and improve , is it fine even if i'm just a noob beginner ?
Thank you everyone , i hope ( i'm actually sure ) to be fine in this forum with my brothers ( i always call brothers high elves ( sometimes even wood elves ) players XD )

Hi everyone,

Having been away from Warhammer Fantasy for many a year, I finally took the plunge to get back into it. My first armies were Chaos (Warriors of Nurgle) and Dwarfs. After someone stole my Dwarf army, I left Warhammer and played 40k and a myriad of other games including CCGs. I've been interested in High Elves for as long as I can remember and have bought various bits and pieces for them over that time. It's only been in the last few months I've got serious on the idea. What with the new book, 8th Ed (Which I love, seems to be the most balanced rules set I've ever seen for it) and a couple of friends who are getting into it, not to mention the new minis out, it was enough for me to take the love in my head and place it into reality.

Loving the site and all the info contained within it's great walls, it's been very insightful. I imagine before too long I'll be posting requesting tips and critiques.

For Ulthuan!

Hello all, my first army was High Elves way back in 1992 and although I had a 10 year hiatus from playing the Asur have always held my attention. I've had side projects here and there (Tomb Kings and Dwarfs) I always came back to the High Elves. I'm loving the new Armybook and have even recently beaten a gaming buddy that plays Dark Elves who used his new book. I've been a long time lurker and really enjoy the community here!!!

Good evening Ulthuan,

I am Count Matthewzilla, and by such title, you are right to assume I play vampire counts. Im from Arizona, USA. I have been playing for 17 years mostly in 40 k until 5th came out and upon suggestion of my then girlfriend, now wife (soon to b mother of my firstborn) picked up fantasy with the counts and have been playing almost exclusively whfb ever since. I have just recently started elves after enjoying the fiction. I love the models and look forward to painting a lothern themed army.

Hello everyone. Just signed up so I thought I'd say Hi.

Just getting back into Warhammer after a 10 year gap.

The local store is starting a new army campaign next year starting at 500 points and expanding 250/bi-monthly, so hopefully I can show all of you my progress as it happens (just don't expect any great painting).

greetings fellow elven warriors and mages!

time to introduce myself after quite a lot of stuff that i left in this forum. i call myself Icarion, i love dragons, own quite a lot (non GW, decorative stuff) and also started HE around 25years ago for exactly the same reason. i also like the old white lions, of whom i own some too. i also play different kinds of RPG-stuff like WoW, "The dark eye", D&D, SW-TOR, etc.
my real-life person is 34 years old, living in munich/bavaria, which is in southern germany (where the nice beer comes from), but originally me and my parents came from wroclaw/poland 32 years ago.
over the years i collected quite a bit of WHFB and 40k stuff, so i also have a spacewolves and eldar army in 40k, some chaoswarriors+daemons and dwarves in WHFB and my girlfriend owns a nice darkelves army.
plans for the future are growing in range of models for all those armies mentioned above and maybe starting something evil in 40k too. i think that should be enough for now.

if someone has any question, feel free to PM me.

Icarion

I suppose I should get around to a quick introduction.

I'm Mark (or Chep, a nickname I picked up a few years ago) and I'm from San Diego, CA, USA. I work part time as an LVN (vocational nurse) while finishing up my RN degree.

I've been collecting miniatures off and on for over 25 years now, ever since I got started with an old Ral Partha ranger to represent my D&D character at 8 (I found it in my bits box this weekend, too...). My current armies are high elves (so much to left to paint), an Adeptus Sororitas army (currently in retirement), a Black Templars SM army (eventually I'll finish painting them...and assembling that land raider and 2nd predator), and a space orks army (just for the fun and conversion aspects). As you can see, I was (am?) primarily a 40k player, but I love the models I saw with IoB...and decided one horde army is enough for anyone so stuck with the elves.

So far, I have yet to play a game, but that's okay, because the hobby aspect is just as fun as the gaming aspect.

It's been a couple years since I've been here, but I'm back. I've been lurking for a bit, but now that I have dusted off my old high elves, and in the process of stripping a good number of them, I'm ready to roll out with my largely OOP high elf army this year. I've been playing Orcs and Goblins for over ten years, as well as Warmachine. However, it is time I returned to my roots and so here I am. I'd actually say I first joined this community in 1997 under the name Morvael, but that identity is largely irrelevant, I'd expect. I look forward to contributing to this forum in a meaningful way!

Greetings all,
I was planning on lurking a while first, but since I responded to another thread I might as well do the introduction thing.

I got started with minis by getting suckered into Mordheim when it was fairly new. In our group we refer to it as the gateway drug to Warhammer.

My dear sweet wife bought me a battalion box and a couple of other boxes for Christmas. She knew I wanted my next army to be a lower model count since I usually run Orcs and Goblins or Tomb Kings.
I started playing WFB at the very end of 7th ed. Prior to that, I had played 40K starting in 3rd ed. I took a hiatus from that that skipped 5th ed. entirely.

I currently have the aforementioned Orc and Goblin army, a Tomb King army for WFB, and Necron army for 40K. My Black Templars, which were my first army back when they were first introduced as a part of Codex Armageddon is in the process of being stripped and repainted. In addition, I have the beginnings of a Ork army for 40K. As to Mordheim, I have a more war bands than I care to bother to type out.

Once I finish with enough of the BTs to get them on the table in a presentable manner, I'll get to work on the Elves. For now, though, I'll mostly be reading and learning.
