Using other than GW models

#1 Post by Profes79 »

Recently my friend sent me a link to very nice models of pike and shoot infantry from the period of English Civil War. They looks really great and they are not very different from Emmpire Infantry eg. with muskets or from pistoliers.

Will it be possible to use such a models in normal gameplay? Or are the some restriction to that? Scale is the same.

Using GW miniatures is never a must but in official tourneis. So if you want to enter one you must use GW miniatures, but if you are not, then you can play with the miniatures you want or like. Whereas, it is very important that all the models are well represented some way. With my friends i usually use other models wich "count as" other ones due to my lack of models in this moment, so that i can test the units before espending my money in units that i will not use so often.

As said, you can't do it at GW events, not a problem with like-minded friends.

In an independent tourney for example you'd probably be Ok so long as it the equipment is clear on the models. Some might object to the difference between Renaissance and ECW clothing I guess.

I always say this when a thread like this comes up:

You must have GW figures to play in GW tournaments. Even if you don't think you'll ever attend a GW event it would be a shame to spend all that money and time building your army only to be unable to use it 5/10 years down the road if your mind ever changes.
For the dwarfs, there was only this. Hammerson met Grombrindal’s gaze, and the White Dwarf nodded slowly. If it must be done, let it be done well. Whether they were dead or alive, that was the only way dwarfs knew how to do anything.

And Grombrindal said "10 from the back, yeah?"

Well, taking into account how many official GW tournaments are run in Poland I think I can sleep peacefully with other than gw models then.

Thanks for answers - I had so long break from playing that I was not sure what (if anything) had changed in this area.

As long as you don't use them in a GW store or tournament and other players don't care, it's not a problem.

If your model has 70% conversion with GW stuffs, it's 'legal'.

As others have stated; Not on GW tournaments, but on any other occasion, it shouldn't matter.

Personally I have quite afew gamezone miniatures, and I sleep good at night as well. :)

I was thinking like Anathir before, but since then I have "grown up" and realized that, "What the heck!" and I sleep well at nights.
With their absurd price hikes, I will just buy what I really want, and convert the rest! :P

And orkifying WWII plastic scale models is so fun! You just make sure you buy some orky stuff to get a small bitz collection and there you go!

To each his own.

I've found that many figures from other GW ranges make fine Warhammer troops, sometimes even without conversion.
