Dragon Mage LOS questions

#1 Post by Kiwi »

If I deploy a Dragon Mage behind another unit lets say a unit of Archers

1) Can the mage get LOS over the archers for the purpose of casting spells

2) Can enemy units in front of the archers get LOS to the Dragon despite its base being blocked.

IMO the answer to 1) is YES and 2) is NO as LOS requires base to base contact and Dragon acts as a mobile hill (of sorts). But this seems contradictory and unfair, need to know if we are applying this right.

If the Dragon can see you, you can see the Dragon, within the constraints of the units' arcs of view.

sweet that makes more sense so in another scenario - we have a forest and a building between an Empire Cannon and the Dragon. A clear line of sight cant be drawn from the base of either unit to each-other. Yet the Empire player claims he can see the Dragon as it is a Monstrous mount? Is this correct - to me it isnt as the LOS base rule hasnt been met

By default, buildings and trees are infinitely high, so unless the base can be seen without passing through either, you can't shoot at any large target.

Terrain height can be altered either before or during terrain setup, usually by mutual agreement.

Terrain rules are vague. You MUST agree on terrain rules with your opponent when you put the table together. Nothing else matters.

a dragon is a large targer. It can see over units and if it can see units they can see the dragon.

Where we play only with forest it is considered that the height is infinete. Buildings if used are as the models are high. Hills have no slopes unless both sides agree to it before hand. That is the basic store's rules. If both sides agree to it the forest can be made just like buildings. But why would I agree to that if I play with a dragon?

Other stores and clubs probably have different rules. We also play with an open list.

Gagh are you serious. Fantasy is designed for closed lists, i hate open lists in fantasy.

The answer to your questions Kiwi is Yes and Yes. Base is irrelevant fact is its a large target, large targets can see and can be seen over units. The dragon can even charge assuming the enemy unit is in the frontal arch.

While there are items and things that "reveal" other hidden elements. Open list is a different way to play and simply changes the strategy involved.

I prefer closed lists but I can see some validity to open lists, especially with newer players.
