Nothing special, just a little something i ran together whilst board before i started work. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as i did writing it...

(Excerpt discovered in bad condition, though one page of the lay is intact,)

.... .... and shall the ...., ... waves and rush and .....
and till the end we knew, had come upon us now with force.

The ship of slim and ancient bark, adrift amid the heavy waves
did shake and shudder, bend with force, almost swallowed to watery graves.
Yet Alcantarash, our glorious leader, filled with bravery above compare
did steer us safely through the darkness, and it is this story i will share.

six hundred elves of many paths did stand upon our tree-formed-whale
hunters, warriors, cooks and mages, our expedition would not fail.
and yet, with even the help of spells; protective in their nature true
our poor ship did break apart, cleanly break clear in to two.

The wild waters of Mathlaan's rest did swell to fill our open gash
and with this gentle, caring caress remove from us Alcantarash.
The last I saw of my long time friend, was but a hand reached out for me.
Yet without remorse, Wise Mathlann, pulled his hand beneath the sea.

The shouts and screams of dying elves, did fill my ears with fear and dread,
half lost orders floated on the wind; their recipients already dead.
A mage rose up above the waters, spell beginning in his grasp
until, a monstrous serpent his maw around the mage did clasp.

All around the air was grim. I swam, as hard as I could muster
Setting sights on the shore ahead, having no time left to fluster.
Behind me shouts of dying elves had been drowned out by a horrendous din
as the serpent, servent of Mathlaan, began to gorge on my poor kin.

I swam as fast as Kurnous allowed me, uttering prayers and sacred chants.
I asked for his guidance and protection, only he could give me the chance
to shore myself, to feel terra firma, to stand again on hard dry land.
to feel betwix my feet again to warm embrace of golden sand.

the noise of slaughter began to dim, i felt the waters growing calm
upon my back the sun itself, became a comforting, healing balm.
The shore came near and as i reach it, wet and tired and without breath
my mind fell back to my travelling companions, those behind which i had left.

I pulled my self upon a rock, looking back at crimson seas
i reached my voice up to the heavens, wishing for Mathlaan to hear my pleas.
"why did you do this" my voice rang out, clear and loud along the shore'
"why have you saved me,why kill my kin? why not allow your beast one more?"

And from the heavens, parting clouds. a ray of light and clear spoken runes
"it is your destiny to live, to carry on past many moons".
I looked in wonderment above, searching for the vocal source
"but how can i live in this new world, filled as I am with sad remorse?"

The clouds closed up, the light diminished, the voice again could not be found
the only noise left to my ears was rocks upon which the waves did pound.
I searched inside my self for strength, to pull my self to my full height
to put away the fear and guilt, to strive on through my god-given plight

and so, across the ...., and still... ... .... .... ...
... ... ...to travel to.... forest. Woods and ....

(document ends)

Depends on what you wanted to achieve with this piece. It is more difficult to judge foreign poetry than prose.
