Rising seas; the prelude - Chapter 1

#1 Post by Asurion Whitestar »

Chapter the first.

The night was black, the only light, were the bright stars that danced across the sky within the nebulae of the cosmos. The moons were hardly visible behind the scarce storm clouds that stretched from horizon to horizon.
A young sea elf stood at the helm of his flagship the Varied Truth, a grand vessel carved from the finest starwood and bloodelm, sails as dark as night that shimmered with the colours or the deep ocean. A ferocious seahorse adorned upon her prow, the crest of the prince that mastered her. She wasn't the largest ship by any measure, but she was fast, and silent. The sea elf guided the Truth through the rough seas with minimal effort, avoiding the many treacherous waterspouts that plagued the dark and deep oceans off the coast of Naggaroth, and the dark red lightning that struck the ocean almost as constant as a beating drum.

As the Truth shot through the raging waves, cold sprays of water showered down upon the few score of elves that tended to the sheets and lines of the darting vessel.

Snaking their way over the deeper seas and into shallower waters where the ragged rocky reefs pierced the ocean's skin like black cursed knives.

An elf dressed in black and turquoise robes, with golden armour of scale and intricate patterned plate approached from the larboard side, his long dark sea cloak fluttering in the strong wind towards the bow, his black hair waving from beneath his high helm, even with his collar that pronounced his rank of commodore shielding most of his face from the chill wind. Flashes of red lit up the Truth as lightning struck around her, the dark light catching in the many gems that adorned the ship and her crew's garb and weapons, none more so than the magnificent jewel that sat betwixt the two antennae-like horns of the commodore's helm.

"Sire, the crew grow anxious.", the commodore's words pierced through a thunderclap from the dark lightning above and rested on his captain's ears with earnest. "Worry not Malkyth, their blades shall soon taste Druchii blood, we will have our revenge for their last raid claimed loved ones from us all, and the only angst shall then be from our treacherous kin." replied the helmsman as he looked upon his second with dark piercing grey eyes.
"It is not only that sire, but the seas and skies hide shadows from our sight. They fear the unknown, not the known." Malkyth gently shook his head as he spoke. "My father's orca are with us Malkyth, they shall warn us of any dangers that approach from below, and the night hawks patrol high above the storms along with your own Skycutter, no harpy can escape their keen sight. We are unnoticed, we are the shadows here." Malkyth turned towards the stern and placed a hand on his captain's shoulder in assurance "You are right Kitlith." He said with a somber smile, "We shall strike hard and fast and be gone before they can counter-attack with their full brigade. I shall gather the minstrels to lift the crew's moral before we land." With a nod from his prince, Malkyth turned back towards the fore and jumped the high rail from where the wheel of the Truth rest, landing squarely on the main deck below, bending only a single knee as he landed. He rose swiftly and gestured to a few seamen from the starboard and larboard sides of the vessel.
The elves swiftly gathered by Malkyth and with but a few words they equipped their instruments and began to play an uplifting yet somber tune, a song of triumph through tragedy. With the remainder of the crew chiming in with perfect harmony for the chorus.
The whole crew singing in unison while drumming their boots to the rhythm on the deck with their footsteps. Even the hull hummed with the solemn sung lyrics from those that were below deck.
**
"Though the truth may vary this, ship will carry our bodies safe to shore. Aye. Do not listen to words they say. Aye. Their screams all sound the same. Aye. Though the truth may vary this..." all were silenced by a voice from high on the mainmast.

"The coast is in sight my-lord" a hushed shout from the crow's nest echoed below. Kitlith acknowledged with a stern nod in the eagle-eye's direction, the crew stowing their fears and readied for the battle ahead.

All wore dark turquoise and dirtied white robes and were covered in golden scale mail and plate armour with gems inlaid in all crew's armour and weapons, catching the almost distant lightning flashes within them still. Most crew were armed with bow and spear, the Cothique Seaguard. More elite warriors started to emerge from below deck, they were armed with great swords not unlike those of the Swordmasters. The fabled Black Lions of Nagarythe, along with their namesake warrior-mascot Foques, a great jet black war lion from the edges of the Lion Glade Valley near Dead Kings Peak within the Annuli. A score of Dark Helms made their way to the foredeck along with a handful of Shore Riders. The crew of the Cothique Eagle Claw batteries gathered their ammunition, golden tipped bolts that mark death for the many foul beasts that the Druchii enslave for their unending wars across the world.

They were ready, and their bloodshed would be swift, just and merciless.
Sincerely,
Kitlith

Going to raid Naggaroth on board of Varied Truth? Sounds interesting, although the other two chapters are not too informative yet.
