Tor Lithanel - Army fluff

#1 Post by Ilifirinel »

Hey all, I just wanted to post some fluff for my up and coming High elf army. 'm I playing as one of the lost colonies which is hidden away in the old world.

Tor Lithanel - The glass city of Silver Wood

Tor Lithanel started out as a fortified research post within Laurelorn Wood, known as silver wood to the elves, named after the fabled tree of the region. During the war of the bead, as the Asur settlements fell, and their people called back to Ulthuan those who decided to stay flocked to Tor Lithanel, which over time grew into a large city hidden within the ancient forest. Here they were safe from the dwarves.

Tor Lithanel’s ruler is known as the witch queen. She has the ultimate say in the cities decisions and nobles and princes can only petition to have their voices heard. The position traditionally requires the Queen to bond with an ancient forest sprit, so that they may both govern Tor Lithanel and Sliver wood together. Up until only recently, the position was held by Torothal and her Water spirit Niseag. Torothal had become withdrawn, fickle and paranoid in the later part of her rule, cutting off all ties with those elves living within Laurelorn Forest as well as with Ulthuan itself. She had outsiders to Tor Lithanel killed on sight and with trade rout severed the city began to fall to ruin, the forest reclaiming its dominion over the area.

Torothal’s only daughter, Ilifirinel is a welcome change in the mind of all except perhaps Torothal’s most loyal minons. Ilifirinel, with her Forest dragon Ilifirinel, have now taken the roll of Witch Queen and she has a very big job ahead of her, repairing the damage her mother caused.

Their first mission was to re-establish contact with the wood elves in the surrounding forest and bringing back those who fled Torothal’s insane rule.

The latest Witch Queen of Silver Wood

Ilifirinel is the current Queen of Tor Lithanel and rules her people with strength and devotion. She is the youngest Queen in Silver Wood’s history, being just over a century old, a mere child by elf standards. Her people see her rule as divine providence however and thus far she has proved her wisdom and kindness to those who were in need. No mater where she is, whether receiving ambassadors in her throne room, or touring her lands, Ilifirinel is always accompanied by her protector and consort; the Mighty Dragon Grougaloragran who is a terrifying reminder of the power the Queen holds.

Many who knew Ilifirinel only a year before would have never thought she was ready for leadership. She was a flighty youth, prone to bouts of impulsiveness. Her position as the crown Princess gave her many freedoms which she exercised readily. She spent much time abroad, exploring the forest and visiting the wood elf encampments. Sometimes she would even venture into the Human Empire’s territory and simply watched as the peasantry lived, horrified at the conditions. Her mother, the current witch Queen Torothal did not want her daughter associating with such filthy savages and would prevent Ilifirinel from leaving the city when ever she could.

For you see over the passed millennia, Queen Torothal had become withdrawn and paranoid, cutting all of Tor Lithanel’s ties to anyone beyond the cities walls. Where once Tor Lithanel had prospered with trade, with both the wood elves of Silver Wood and Ulthuan itself, now the city has fallen to ruin hidden away within the forest. Queen Torothal had imposed a strict order to kill any trespassers on sight; as well as from preventing her subject for leaving the city. Many of the populace attempted to leave regardless, but few made it out.

From her travels, Ilifirinel knew her city was dieing but all of her attempts to explain this to her mother fell on deaf ears. The Queen’s water spirit, Niseag seemed as oblivious as Torothal. Ilifirinel was also sought out by other like minded elves with Tor Litanel, who wanted to over throw the queen. While Ilifirinel wanted to help her city, she couldn’t lead a rebellion against the Witch Queen. Disobeying her mother and being a traitor to the crown were two very different things in her mind.

Needing time to think, she once more slipped out of Tor Lithanel, heading to one of the nearby wood elf villages she liked to visit. One of her closest friends lived there, an elf man named Fiorvias whom she visited for time to time. Ilifirinel always came in disguise, not wanting the people she met to know she was their princess. Unknown to her, Fiorvias was in love with Ilifirinel and wanted to marry her. After a day of flying with him on their warhawks, Ilifirinel headed back to Tor Lithanel. Ganidrof follower her, wanting to profess his love at the right time. He was confused when he watched her sneak back into Tor Lithanel, and shocked when she entered the palace.

That night Fiorvias rode his warhawk to Ilifirinel’s balcony intending to express his love to her. Terrified what her mother would do if she found out, Ilifirinel tired to get him to flee for his life but it was too late. Niseag had been watching and the royal guard burst into Ilifirinel’s room, led by the water spirit itself. Ganidrof attempted to flea on his warhawk, but the beast was brought down by arrow fire.

Fiorvias was tortured by Torothal’s men and he gave up the location of his village. Insane with anger, the Queen ordered the extermination of the small village, a lesson to all not to deal with savages. In a desperate attempt to save Fiorvias, Ilifirinel agreed to lead the rebellion and that night the almost half the city’s population stormed the palace. The battle was short, Niseag had known about the attack and the royal guard was ready for it. Those not killed in battle were captured to await execution. Ilifirinel was only able to escape due to the bravery of one of the captives, who was summarily killed by a royal guard.

Ilifirinel ran deep into the forest, wanting nothing more then to flee from her insane mother. The Queen’s troops gave chase, hounding her every step of the way. Ilifirinel couldn’t loose her pursuers until she stepped in a sink hole and fell into darkness.

When she came too, Ilifirinel discovered she had fallen into a deep cave system. The only light was a thin shaft penetrating through the hole she had fallen through. She spun on the spot, trying to decide which way was out when she saw another light, albeit faint, in the distance. She ran towards it, thinking it to be the exit. It was not. It was the light coming from the shaft above her reflection off the giant eye of a massive black dragon. Ilifirinel skidded to a stop and screamed, thinking the dragon was going to eat her. The creature looked into Ilifirinel’s eyes, staring for a long time. Ilifirinel understood; Torothal was no longer fit for rule, and this dragon Grougaloragran would help her.

That night, just as Queen Torothal ordered the executions to begin, Ilifirinel descended upon the ceremony astride Grougaloragran like a wrathful god. All elves present stood in awe of their princess, many falling to their knees. Torothal was outraged, ordering the soldiers to execute her daughter. Grougaloragran was quick to destroy any who tried to attack his rider, his fiery breath turning them all to ash. Niseag tried to intervene as well, but Grougaloragran snapped the water spirit in twain with his mighty jaws. Torothal launched spell after spell at the dragon and rider, overcome with insanity and grief. Ilifirinel could barely keep her mother’s power at bay, deflecting the deadly magic as best she could. Torothal build up a massive magnitude of power, intending to blast her daughter to oblivion, but lost control and the magical energies consumed her until their was nothing but a scorch mark where she stood.

So did the rein of Torothal, Witch Queen of Tor Lithanel end. Ilifirinel took up the throne, with Grougaloragran at her side. The position is less than ideal, her city is in ruin and her people have no allies. As her first act, Ilifirinel lifted the city’s self imposed exile and invited all the tribe leaders to her court. She would begin repairing Tor Lithanel’s reputation with the Asari, then the wider world. As her second act towards this goal she has sent a messenger hawk to Ulthuan, being a message of a trade alliance. While waiting for a reply, she has planned a route through the empire, hoping to meet with human dignitaries and open trade between the neighbouring kingdoms. Grugal insists on an armed escort of no less then 50, through Ilifirinel believe they will be unnecessary.
