Game of Thrones

#1 Post by Tahl »

Is there any interest in a Game of Thrones role playing game?

I've been thinking it might be fun to base it on a small band of mercenaries who join up with various different factions as the story line progresses.

I figure that we aim for four players then start (RP forum isn't what it used to be). We can then let other people join along the way.

I'd be a maybe too, dependent on rule-set/players/coolness of your idea. :D

I'd join as well, the novels are fantastic. How do you plan on going about the rules, and application of the original setting?

Never rp'd before, always wanted to give it a shot, in the middle of reading the novels, I'd be in if I'm welcome.

Well it looks like Tahl hasn't checked in for about a month. :(

Maybe a new round of DAU would liven things up around here...

Or maybe someone other than Tahl could try and take over? I'm sure he wouldn't be too miffed.

Not nearly as well read on the lore yet.. I also, currently, have no clue how to play this out.

Just wanted to say that if this going to start then i would to be a part of it too. I have only watched the TV series and have not read any of the Books though so i am out as a 'Dungeon Master'.

I have done a couple of RPs before on a different site and i really enjoy them.

Come on people lets make this as successful as 'One brief Shining Moment'!

There seems to be interest, and I'd love to see this get started... any ideas/suggestions on how to run it? I might be willing to GM it, if we can decide on something. I'm not too sure what sort of system would work best... there's the standard sword stabbing and magic stuff, but we can't forget all the plotting and backstabbing. How about the setting? Would it work better to use the main storyline, have the RP run parallel to it, or use a different place/time?

In such established worlds, its better to choose an alternate timeline IMHO

Agreed.

Also i would like it to be more focused on 'The Wall' and the undead things beyond it (forgot their name). But Intrique at Court and backstabbing would also be cool.

Hrm... perhaps it could start somewhere else, and move to wall? Say, an expedition to investigate rumours of the dead things? Or a group gathering recruits? (or even combine those two things) That could give a change of scenery and allow for some nice variety of characters...

What i was thinking. I didn't mean to start at the Wall or be only set on the Wall all the mean't was maybe the story should be about the Dead Things and not just bickering Nobles. Maybe have it so the dead things have been spotted south of the Wall and no one knows how? But due to some civil war or something no one has responded yet so in comes our group of would be heroes? who not only has to deal with dead things but also the civil war and politics.

Maybe Robert Baratheon isn't murdered and your characters could be a member of the nights watch or one of the mercenaries hired to man the wall and scout with the rangers.?

Is there anyone able to lead this RP? I would but all i know about Game of Thrones is what i have watched in the TV series and many TV series based on books etc usually leave out alot of the lore.

Or if not Game of Thrones maybe something similar that we could do? Please the roleplayer inside me is itching what with no decent video games out lately (seriously i've been looking at my old copy of FF7 for PS1 and thinking about playing it! which wouldn't be bad as its my favourite game but still).

Edit: Maybe we all can jump start it by each posting a profile of their intended characters, for example:
Name: Bobby the wise
Age: 42
Sex: Male
Profession: Hunter
Short History: Lived in a small village north of Winterfell so had usual dealings with the men that kept the wall. His parents were farmers but both died to a plague when he was 36. Their deaths still fresh in his mind he seeks his fortune in Kings Landing. (lame story but you get the idea  )

Funny I never saw this thread before.

I've actually been looking to run an ASOIF game set about 10 years after the events in A Dance with Dragons. It is to be called "The Long Night". I'm very read into the lore so, that's no fret. I intended to use the Pathfinder system. I'd be willing to do that here.

So clearly a bit of alternate timeline. Some bullet points follow on the alternate timeline events...

10 years in the future (I already said that).
Winter has come and the Others have broken the wall and descended on Westeros.
The Others have laid waste to the North as far south as Moat Cailin and the Neck.
The Night's Watch has swelled in numbers to around 15,000, but is fractured into factions.
The political intrigue of the Kingdoms continues but all still face the invasion of the Others.

If anyone is interested, I'd be happy to run this. I've been Gamemastering for almost 30 years but have never done a play by post game.

I'm going on vacation for a week on Monday, but I'll check back in when I get back to see if we have anyone interested.

No spoilers there Aethyr. Those are all made up components of the alternate timeline (future) of a game I've been planning to run.
