The academy - game thread

#1 Post by Ruerl Khan »

Remember the rules written here: http://www.ulthuan.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=30501
If you have any questions, ask them there too.

The public description of the Players/characters:

DarkTyrany22 (Micaere)
Hailing from Saphery, Micaere is a young sorceress who often talks about using magic in a subtle way rather than direct application of force.

Anarion (Zorianay)
This beautifull if somewhat cold naggarythian sorceress is particulair adept at defending against magic.

NoOoDLe (Alexiah)
A caledorian firemage with the temper to match it, Alexiah is another of the many female wizards around.

Shandiar (Shiadrych)
Lithe and beautifull, Shiadrych is known to be a highly talented sorceress who is a skilled generalist.

Prince_Asuryan (Corvych)
Also from Caledor, Corvych is an aspiring young mage who like Alexiah wields the lore of fire hoping one day to ride one of the drakes of the fabled land into battle.

Amun-Lothain (Nashalon)
Young and skilled Nashalon is perhaps one of the most physically fit students at the academy, he is also known to be a generalist although not as talented as Shiadrych.

Uther Di Asturien (Hjiorych)
Hailing from Lothern Hjiorych is a somewhat unusual sight, he is the smallest of you, and the fattest of you. And it is well known that he likes food, a lot. He is also known to have an ironic sense of humour.

The Darkness (Ardan)
Coming from the windswept shores of Tirannoc Ardan is a young specialist in using the lore of heavens, and a skilled diviner as such.

Andruillius (Vendyh)
One of the most talented young sorceresses in the academy, Vendyh is a sapherian beauty who like Shiadrych is a talented generalist.

Paraicj (Ashar)
Another young man from the province of sorcery Ashar is known to be a natural talent with some ascetic traits.

Luna Guardian (Coran Morningroar)
The tallest and physically most intimidating of you, Coran Morningroar from the province of Chrace stands nearly a foot above any of the rest of you, he is not the most skilled student, but he is known to be very dedicated.

Allerion (Llandowyn)
Coming from the fabled kingdom of Avalon Llandowyn is known to be a person who appreciates life and the simple joys coming his way.

And now, the introduction of the academy itself:
The sound of silver bells fill the air as the visitors approach this towering mansion, servants are seen everywhere attenting your every need as you thread the soaring walkways from wich hangs a myriad of small silverbells that gives the academy its name, the academy itself is presided over by none less than the loremaster Bel-Shannar himself, although he is raredly here being a busy man, he leaves the everyday work to his liutenant Kerioch, a mage of no small skill and one whom you must all please should you wish to remain at the academy of silver bells.

For it is he who decides who amongst you will get to move on, who will have the honour of studying directly under the honoured Bel-Shannar, something you all are keenly aware of.

***

It is now DAY, you are all together in the common room of the academy who is clad in the green colours of spring, the gametime will begin in 48 hours, use the time inbetween to plot, and RP with each other. Enjoy it before nightfall, for come the night you may... disappear.

Welcome to the academy of silver bells.
I love pushing around my small delicatedly painted dolls together with the rest of you.

Clear signs of frustration grew upon the gentle features of Alexiah's face as she struggled to correctly cast the spell she was to learn. Her determination to master it before Corvych was common knowledge. Sitting in a corner she looked up from her spell-book and stood up and walked over to Zorianay, her black garments and fiery red hair fluttering in her wake.

Trying to overcome her frustration and turn the raw emotion into power for her spell she spoke "Zorianay..? Could you perhaps help me out with this spell? I want to practice it but I'm afraid I blow up half of the commons room if it miscasts.. Maybe you could create a magical shield bubble which I could cast it in to contain the blast?"

OOC: Since we got rather elaborate character sheets I wasn't sure on exactly how we're supposed to enter in this roleplay.. Aka. Like this or like other DAU's where it's speech and intonation only.

Shiadrych noticed Alexiahs struggles to master the difficult spell. The Sapherian mage, rose to her full height, her blonde hair fell like a waterfall down her back.

"Darling, let me help you with this incantation." Shiadrych said with a low charming voice.

Her attention immediately drawn away from Zorianay, who hadn't answered her question yet, and onto Shiadrych Alexiah turned around, trying her best to avoid smiling with too much of a surprised yet satisfied glee.

"Your help would be most appreciated.." Alexiah answered, her lips silently forming 'my love' afterwards.

Zorianay snorted audibly when Shiadrych took upon herself the aid for Alexiah that had been requested of her. "When that fails you may come back to me, Alexiah," she said with a bright smile and a toss of her raven hair. Zorianay turned her back on the Sapherian mage. Her gaze swept across the others in the room. None of them understood what it was like to stand in the face of the druchii, she thought. Zorianay strode to a window and looked out, ignoring the others in the room for now.

At first Hjiorych simply yawned, bored with the seriousness prevailing in the group's mood.
This was quickly followed by a smile and his most common question.
"So, might any of you know when the next meal is served? Just curious..."

Ashar grunted, coming out of his almost-trance, grimacing slightly at the interruption to his thoughts.

"Alexiah, if you are not confident in your success with the spell, I would ask you not to practice near us. I do not want to turn into some mewling beast because of your lack of control. Go out to the practice fields where all you will injure is the grass, and perhaps yourself if you are so lacking in control. Or perhaps meditate on control first and attempt only when you are mentally ready.

Hjiorych, control might be something for you to meditate on too. Food is a distraction, not something to dwell on."

He didn't even look around from his wooden stool facing the window where he had been practicing calming his mind, occasionally sipping water from a fluted glass, his white robe bare of ostentation below plain brown hair. With a sigh for his disrupted concentration, he began his exercises again from the beginning, setting his face as a blank mask, his grey eyes lidded.

Nashalon had arrived in the common room following his usual morning run, a book under one arm. The others might not mind sitting hunched over texts all day, but Nashalon was resolved to leave this academy as fit as he had entered it. Taking a seat, he took a bite from an apple and listened to the others as he glanced over the book. He wished Alexiah would have tried the spell on her own, at least it would have brought some entertainment. He shook his head. "Concentrate Nashalon." It was obvious that his skills did not equal Shiadrych and Vendyh, so he would have to work hard to catch up.

The text was particularly dry, and Nashalon soon lost interest again. He laughed at the familiar question from Hjiiorych. "Never soon enough, for you." He fished around in the pocket of his robe and found a second apple, which he tossed to Hjiorych with a grin. "Ashar is right you know. Best not to think about academy food, just chew and swallow."

Quite amused Shiadrych observed Nashalon, one who might be competent in time but alas it was not now. "Alexiah love." she pronounced the last sentence with a catlike hiss, sexy as any wanted it to be. "You will do fine with this exact incantation. Ashar, don't be worried, she is in good hands." She said.

Ashar opened his eyes, realising he would get no peace this day, the others were intent on conversation it would seem.

"Shiadrych, she will learn nothing if she relies on your considerable skills just for the sake of expedience. She will learn the spell better if she does it herself, under her own protections. Her dabbling under your protection does nothing to further her education. I do not know if she is merely trying to show off in here, but the common room is not a place for experimenting, but for reflection, and relaxation, if that is your wont."

He rose from the stool, standing straight, stretching his slim arms from their meditation position, scanning the room.

"Quite a group of us are here today, I see. Do you think revered Bel-Shanaar is close to deciding which of us is ready for our apprenticeship under him?"

Alexiah smiled widely, a devious grin playing on her lips as her eyes shot from Shiadrych to Ashar and back again, briefly seeking the alluring gaze of Shiadrych.

"Asher, my meditating co-scholar, I'm quite confident my incantation will work out just fine but isn't precaution the way to go when others are involved?" She said jokingly, a gentle and friendly tone carried with her words.

"Yet indeed, this is no mere practice.. I do intend to show off.." She added with a cheesy wink before casting her gaze back towards Shiadrych. Silently she rehearsed the incantation in her head once more before casting it out.

The air crackled for a moment and sinders formed in mid air.. An uneasy moment ensued as Alexiah spoke out the final words and a small flaming drake formed from the sinders.

Not taking her gaze away from Shiadrych she smiled, satisfied, as the drake fluttered around the room, careful not to set anything else ablaze.

Hjiorych flashed a smile at his friend Nashalon and took a bite from the apple, ignoring Ashar's comment.
After swallowing some pieces, he proceeded to say "Aye, academy food is not the best to think on, but it is better than dwelling on nothing at all. Can somebody explain to me how exactly Bel-Shannar expects to decide which of us is worthy of his presence? Knowledge of the magical arts is good and all, but what about those of us who would perhaps be best suited for other, different roles..." He said while briefly glancing at the experimenting wizards on the other side of the room, smilling as he took another bite from his apple."

Zorianay sniffed disdainfully. "Indeed, there are some here who do not seem to be the type for magical arts at all." Zorianay did not turn from her place at the window, leaving them to ponder who she might mean.

Llandowyn seemingly wandered into the room as Zorianay began to speak. The un-attentive almost-dazed look on Llandowyn's face was instantly replaced with a look of concern.

Now Zorianay, there's no need to insult others. Im sure everyone here was admitted because they showed some potential. Some of us might have more than others, but there is no need to flaunt the ability you supposedly have.

That being said, i do hope everybody is having a good day.

(notices the "grin" on Alexiah's lips)

Oh yes Alexiah, do try to smile once and a while. Anything else is out of place on your pretty face.

Llandowyn takes this time to look at each of the elves in the room, finally coming to Coran. Landowyn smiles extra-wide, and goes to sit next to him

And how are you?

Sitting quietly at the table with Zorianay, Micaere was so deeply absorbed in the literature in front of her she didn't even notice her neighbor's departure, nor the conversations and confrontations circling in the common room. Upon hearing Llandowyn's voice Micaere's attention was drawn from her book and she looked around absorbing everything. Alexiah and Shiadrych were of course putting on some sort of show, which earned an eye roll from Micaere.

Just then Alexiah's fiery drake passed by, startling Micaere out of her chair with a comical clash. Thoroughly embarrassed, she leapt up as though electrocuted and quickly tucked her loose golden hair behind her ears. Her cheeks flushed and a timid smile on her face, Micaere took a seat next to Llandowyn and across from Coran. She set her book down, opened, but her focus was now on the group.

"C'mon Z, nevermind them. Come join us."

Corvych lazily watched the small flaming drake as it circled the room.

'Not bad, for a novice,' he said, smirking slightly at Alexiah, 'But no subsititute for the real thing. Ashar is right, you should pratice alone or you will never succeed without help.' As if to prove his point, the Caledorian clicked his fingers, and a bright white flame erupted from his fingertips, glowing brightly in the room. Slowly he blew each on out until the flames were extinguished - Corych was one for some flare and disply when it came to his spells.

Winking at Shiadrych, Corvych laughed slightly 'but I suppose helping others is what you must do best, oh mighty general.'

He looked around the rest of the group. 'I don not know who the Loremaster will choose, though I expect some of us are more worthy of this than others.'

"Well you can be sure it won't go to whoever can conjure the most intricate flame," Micaere commented sharply. She had no care for Caledorian boasting nor their brute force approach.

"Nor any so wrapped up in merely showing off, I would hope. The Master can see beyond such frivolity, I am sure he would see it as an inappropriate use of the Aethyr. Flames and illusions, petty hedge magicks. Alexiah if you cannot create a spell so simple without aid, you might be better off staying with your ghosts and spirits. Perhaps they would grant you their aid."

Ashar turned to the still-eating Hjiorych.

"I can only assume he will test us at our control over the winds, for what use is an apprentice who is merely a good accountant or conjuror of pretty tricks? To study at the feet of one so great, little short of mastery already would suffice."

Hjiorych seemingly pondered for a couple of seconds before turning to Ashar and answering. "Well that is exactly my point, it is obvious at first glance that we are not all masters of the arcane, however we certainly all exceed at something, so my question is, why would Bel-Shannar gather such a disparate group to choose an apprentice from? Perhaps there IS something which unites us all on a common level."
He took another bite before continuing, some foodcrumbs accidentally falling to the floor as he forgot to swallow.
"Now the question is what."
His apple finished, he then tossed it nonchalantly into the middle of the room, and with a snap of his fingers it turned into a small flightless lizard with small shriveled wings that looked like they could have been a dragon's. Unable to fly it started scurrying around the room chasing the small flaming drake.

Zorianay laughed silently at all the mages showing off their party tricks. She felt no desire to participate in that. "It will take more than such tricks to impress Bel-Shaanar, Hjiorych and Corvych" she said. "That magick would serve you very little in the face of a druchii. Concentrate on more useful things."

She casually walked over to Micaere. "What a pretty couple," she said, smiling at Llandowyn and Micaere.

Alexiah smiled sheepishly at the petty tricks and with a snip of her fingers turned the small drake into one ten times it's size, it's size now being that of a small white lion. A soaring roar escaped the now large drake's mouth before it turned back to it's original size with another snap of Alexiah's fingers.

Back to it's small size the drake playfully panicked and fled from Hjiorych's food incarnation.

"Bel-Shanaar will chose the best amongst our ranks. And for once I will admit that might not be me, but I'm also certain having a bit of fun amongst each other with silly party tricks won't do anyone any harm. My party trick on the other hand also happens to have a use should I ever face our common enemy." She spoke, her tone switching between serious at first, kind half way through and playfully mocking at the end.

outside the birds still chirp their merry tunes, and the soft wind makes the thousands of tiny silver bells in the academy jingle ever so softly, a background music that you all been used to long ago, still at times you may marvel at the soft tunes that never rise to unpleasant levels no matter how strongly the wind might blow outside... hurricane of soft breeze, the soft tingling remains soft.

This in itself says much about the tranquil atmosphere of the place, the serenity of your location as a strong contrast to the often very fierce rivalry amongst you as you each seek your own agenda. Today things appear quiet though, except for Coran Morningroad, who according to the servants, are sick due to having had a bit too much to drink last night after celebrating that he had learned a minor cantrip.

Llandowyn smiled at Micaere as she sat down, and was about to say something as Zorianay spoke. Turning his head as the smile on his face turned into a sarcastic sneer, Llandowyn spoke

Why thank you Zorianay, your input on our friendship really means a lot.

Llandowyn held out his hand, and after a moment or two, a perfectly shaped red apple formed in it. The expression on his face lost most of its venom, and Llandowyn spoke in between bites.

To all of you who believe we're all here simply because of our magical ability, youre fooling yourself. The loremasters know, as should you, that becoming a sucessfull mage requires more than magical ability. So could we stop this petty display of skills?

Too bad for Coran, I hope he feels better soon

Llandowyn finally turns his head back toward Micaere, and smiled slightly

So Micaere, how are you? Is it just me, or are these arrogant students among us rather annoying? But im sure theyll learn some humility eventually. These Caledorians sure do have a different personality than the rest of us. (looks at the caledorians) Why do you feel the need to prove yourself if you feel you are already capable? Im confident in my abilities, so therefore i do not need try to impress those who have no say on my magical career. (looks back at Micaere, expecting a response to his questions, and takes a final bite from the apple)

"Well, Shiadrych is it? That is quite a good insight, which brings a troubling conclusion with it. I reckon it is not our abilities which will be tested, but rather our loyalty." Hijorych said with a much more gloomy tone than usual. After a couple of seconds however he smiled again. "Anyone up for a bet on my Apple Drake against that puny fire drake over there?" He said sarcasticaly and with a grin towards Alexiah.

Micaere gaped at Zorianay's appraisal of herself and Llandowyn, but regained her composure before Llandowyn turned to her with questions. "Well, I suppose it is the typical Caledorian way, arrogance and pride before anything else." She added a slight smile as if looking for approval.

"But I'd guess one such as Alexiah needs to flaunt her fire magicks to quell any ungainly rumors," alluding towards Ashar's suggestion of the firemage's true sorcery.

The landscape slowly gets bathed in the golden-red hues of the setting sun, the birds slowly stop their singing outside to be replaced by the sound of insects in the night, somewhere out there an owl hoots. At the academy the soft golden-red hues turn the white stones into a blood red colour.

Still the silverbells continue their eternal soft music into the darkness

It is now NIGHT, those of you who want to use their special abilities, please send me a PM, the rest of you, quiet time. Young students need their sleep.

EDIT: Oh yes, the night will last 24 hours as usual.
I love pushing around my small delicatedly painted dolls together with the rest of you.

The sun slowly rises over the academy bathing the scene in the soft golden light as you all wake up and go to the common room for your breakfeast, Llandowyn has a large soap eye and he appears to have been either punched by someone very strong, Coran Morningroar is unusually silent the stoic Chracian making a point out of refusing to even look at Llandowyn, unusual as it is well known they are friends.

The breakfeast is slow, and you get the impression from the servants that someone had tried to meddle with the food, but that one amongst you, brave and sharp witted had stopped it, or just pulled a prank to make the staff remake the food.

Only one amongst you does not come to the common room, Zorianay, as you start to worry you move to her room in unision, and you find her there, her heart has been torn out and is nowhere to be found, her eyes burned out in the significance of the blind shadowdancers, this is without doubt the work of a druchii assassin!

It is now DAY find the killer amongst you, dispose of the killer. Bel-Shannar expect you to be able to handle your own and you have the authorithy to do so on your own.

To recap:
Llandowyn has a large bruise on his right eye
Coran does not even look towards Llandowyn, as if ashamed or disgusted.
Zorianay has been murdered, her heart torn out and her eyes burned out.
Nashalon has a slight limp as if he stepped on something sharp.
There is a smell of ozone in the air as if Zorianay had invoked her wards, if she did they failed her.
There is a rumour going on about someone trying to poison Hjiorychs food.
You may deal with this however you wish, you have 48 hours before next night, ...enjoy.

The proud Caledorian shuddered visably at the grusome sight before him, but he did not turn away. Instead, he spoke softly to the assembled elves around him.

'It seems there is something amiss at the academy. From my experiance, this sort of murder would be the work of Dark Elves. Was there anything that Zorianay said or did to attract their attention. I for one cannot think of anything other than her comments regarding Micaere and Llandowyn, though she decided to mock myself and Hjiorych.' He shrugged lightly. 'It seems her faith in her own magic was misplaced.'
'The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.'
