RP Revival

#1 Post by Amun-Lothain »

RP has been dead lately (except for Anarion's), so lets revive it!

I see a few others have tried and not gotten much response, but I’ve had a couple of RP ideas floating around in my head, so I figured I’d post them and see if anyone is interested.

Both are themed around necromancy and vampires. I thought it would be fitting with fall and Halloween on the way. :)

One idea was sort of a redo of my old Uneasy Alliances RP which died. I still like the idea of having a group of evildoers, but I think the characters were just too different in background and power to work together. This time around, everyone will play as a vampire, choosing from any of the bloodlines. I think this will create an entertaining amount of conflict in the group without tearing it apart. The basic idea is that a relic of Nagash has been found, something important enough to force the bloodlines to work together to keep it out of the hands of mortals.

My second idea is a sort of Dracula-inspired RP. Years after the Vampire Wars, the Empire is trying to silence rumors that the vampires have risen again. A small group of believers/hired-hands will travel to Sylvania to put an end to the matter, one way or another.

What say you? Are you up to the task of raising RP from the dead? (bad joke, sorry)

Please post if you’re interested, and which RP you would prefer, so I can get an idea and get the story fleshed out. I was thinking of using the tried and true SPAM system, but let me know if you prefer another method.

I'm interested in the former. ^^ Because I hardly ever get to RP an evil bastard.

The latter doesn't interest me too much to be honest.

I've all of a sudden got free time on my hands so I'd be willing. I don't mind either of your ideas so which people like most is fine for me.

I'd like to give Montel a second go, he's a Lahmian vampire, and I'm sure I can fit him into a modified version of Uneasy Alliances v2. ;)

With my exam year I'll not be too active however, is a post a week good enough?

Glad to see some interest!

Looks like you guys prefer the first idea, so I'll get the intro thread set up ASAP. Hopefully that will draw in a couple more, but we could do it with six.

So, get started on those characters! Just please keep them reasonable; no Vlad VonCarsteins reborn types.

@Illidan and Noodle: If I remember right, we got through about one turn a week with the other RP's, so if you post once or twice a week, consistently, you should be fine.

I'm determined to keep this one from dying though, so if people disappear for too long without giving notice, I'll be forced to kick them.

I think I'll use my Strigoi lord's younger version from my WHFB VC army. A strigoi who hasn't turned to a beast, but is utterly insane. Or maybe a blood dragon, hmm...

I want to join. I am writing my character profile. It is supposed to be a FEMALE BLOOD DRAGON, due to the fact that I saw a male Lahmia, so it could be interesting.

I've been considering a game set in Middle Earth around the time of War of the Ring with a slightly modified macro plot twist. Would anyone be interested in that?

I might be interested. Depending on what your plot change consists off and at what "level of skill" your RP is held. =] But.. Yes. Interested.

Btw. For everyone else that wants to sign up for Amun's RP. Bloodlines is open.

Tolkied based RP's can be interesting, I say with bias since mine is going quite well. But as a suggestion, for the war of the ring, there are several elements of the tale that are almost completely undeveloped that you can build RP's on with pretty free rein without modifying the main plot at all.

Lorien - the only part in the books is when the fellowship passes through, yet the elves of Lorien (and Mirkwood) were involved in some pretty heavy battles at that time.

Esgaroth/Lonely Mountain - see above, but with dwarves and humans

Better yet, set it in the east and wrap it around the actions of the missing blue wizards Alatar and Pallando. Perhaps Sauron might have won if there wasn't such a successful resistance movement among the easterlings, or something like that.

Other possibilities exist as well.

Re: RP Revival

#20 Post by Calarion Sapherior »

I'm now on holiday, and so one RPG is not enough for me. It's been a whole year since I ran a game, so I think this needs to change.

I've spoken to some people about what they're interested in, and we've assembled a shortlist of options from all the rpgs that I've got access to. I'll summarise them, including pros and cons, and then people can vote for what they'd like to see me run. I'll then start that in a new thread and people can sign up at that point. Surprisingly, Warhammer didn't make the cut.

Option the First: Fighting Fantasy
If you were playing gamebooks in the 1980s, you'll remember this one fondly. If not, this is a fantasy world called Titan, which has just about every imaginable fantasy element in it somewhere. Think Forgotten Realms but taking itself much less seriously. All the standard fantasy races are around. The campaign for this one is a fun little swords and sorcery thing with evil wizards, terrible monsters, princesses in peril, ancient evils, wretched hives of scum and villainy... This one uses its own rules system, which is very basic. Decide for yourselves if that's a good thing or not.

Option the Second: Lone Wolf
I was highly amused when one of the two 1980s gamebook series got into the finals; I was even more amused when the other one did. Lone Wolf differs from the above in that it's a much more detailed but less quirky world, with much more of an ongoing storyline. The brave men and women of Sommerlund are all that stand between the Darklords of Helgedad and their ruination of the whole world in the name of the dark god Naar. Foremost amongst the defenders are the Kai Lords, a monastic order blessed with special psychic powers by the sun god Kai. This one is run by modified Dungeons and Dragons rules; it's a bit on the heavier end of the rules scale.

Option the Third: Ravenloft
One of the classic Dungeons and Dragons worlds, inspired by gothic horror. You take the role of everyday people thrust into extraordinary situations in a world ruled by vampires, werewolves, ghosts, and the like. This one would be run as a series of one-off adventures, and I'd expect that there would be a rather healthy body count. This one is also run by Dungeons and Dragons rules.

Option the Fourth: Pendragon
Something a little different. Pendragon is set in the Dark Ages, and all the players take the role of knights and their descendents in and around the lifetime of King Arthur. In this game, the focus isn't on the individual knights, who can and absolutely will all die - one of the most important things is establishing a bloodline, so that you can continue with your character's son, grandson, and so on. You'll also have estates to manage, wars to fight, ladies to woo, quests to undertake and so forth. Rules-wise, it's moderate, but this one comes with a big warning attached: the campaign is 80 years long! Even if we break it off half-way, and even if we get through a year a week every week (and I think that's pretty optimistic), this will take an entire year to play. Commitment is required.

Let me know what options you like, and I'll decide which one we're doing and start a sign up thread!

Hello Calarion :D
The Pendragon game seems pretty awesome! Playing as an entire generation of knights seems very different and intriguing compared to the average role play. I know I'm still pretty new to the site but I am very commited to whatever I sign up to do on Ulthuan and have mre than enough time for being active in an RP. Well there is my two cents.

I'm torn between wanting to play and letting others experience a Calarion run RP, which are usually good (or better). Leaning toward the latter, although if Pendragon gets the nod...

Anyway if you haven't seen Calarion run a campaign I recommend you get on board. {shameless plug}
