I'm always baffled how some would consider this "fun".

Re: Gamesday. 3 wins. Old list.

Nice to hear something good about high magic and LSG. I agree, too many DD is a burden, and the short range sucks, but I believe all the spells are useful, and there are a couple very powerful spells (WBW, Arcane Unforging, Fiery Convocation and situationally Drain Magic, at least). Just a nitpick:...

Re: Book of hoeth

I tend not to use the re-roll for Power Dice if a 6 has already come up, unless I really need to force through a spell. That being said, no reason not to re-roll those Dispel Dice :D Riskier players might be happy to go for double 6s though. Having Banner of the World Dragon to offset Miscast damag...

Gamesday. 3 wins. Old list.

We got together for a gamesday and I thought I'd try pretty much my old list before I got around to opening all the new stuff I have. Not so much a battle report, just some thoughts... My list and used High Magic: Arch Mage, book, Talisman of Preservation. (Found I didnt need Talisman) BSB, Enchante...

I think people easily get caught up in a new gimmick. 15 Helms or DP's simply isn't reasonable.

I'm going to run my Helms straight out of the box 4X2. 204 points of goodness.

Re: White Lions in the new book

Running some numbers on how White Lions do against WS4 troops isn't fair or accurate. That's not their job to be fighting marauders, or whatever. The opposite actually. I certainly don't want to continually run a 40 strong unit if white lions with Dragon banner and proclaiming its the bees knees. It...

Re: White Lions in the new book

I had 20 Swordmasters with BSB run headlong into a 14 strong unit if Khorne Warriors with BSB. It was their maiden voyage with the new book and wanted to test them out. We both swing at same time (not used to that) with no rerolls. Me hitting on 3's, him on 4's. His BSB challenged, mine his as his ...

Re: White Lions in the new book

40 of almost anything is going to be a great unit, that doesn't mean it's the answer to using WL's. I've played a couple games so far and used 2 units of 21 Swordmasters and a unit of 21 White Lions as i pretty much used my old list. I can tell you with 100% sincerity and certainty that Martial prow...

Re: Furion's thoughts on the new armybook and cost of units

I think eventually once people figure out the book, I predict HE will fall into a slightly better place than we were at before. I predict a solid, but middle tier army who will only see high placements depending on the skill of the players that pilot them. And let me tell you something: That's exac...

Nice write up. Not sure if I agree on docking an entire point for the Banner of the World Dragon. How can it be the best book when it is going to lose more than it wins against the other 8th edition books and top tier armies? Wondering what the "power" option will be from this book. I als...

Let's be honest, who cares about the wounds on the Bolt thrower. If it hits combat it's generally dead anyways - the extra member (ha ha) doesn't really count for too much. I have much bigger things to hope for with this army. If it's pointed way less I'll be just fiiiiine.

Your list doesn't seem that bad to me either. Can you give a brief battle report? Maybe we can help figure out what went wrong as Empire certainly isn't over the top and even a "gunline" Empire army isn't too bad.

I have boxes and boxes of White lions, Phoenix guard and chariots to paint. Was holding off for the new book to see how the dust settles. I think, much like WoC and Daemons, that High Elf lists may look significantly different with the new book. Appreciate the compliment though, thank you very much.

I don't think the HE lore should be amazing. Easier to cast maybe, but the last thing this game needs is uber Okkams, Pit, Purple, etc.

Although my brain is telling me core Tiranocs, I can't see 1+ for them. I also can't see Dragon Princes in Rare. I have a feeling our big eagle thingie and drake riders may fit in rare, a la Skullcrushers.

I have nothing to base that on btw.

I hope to GOD, it's not a gazebo with wings! And I happen to think the Lion Chariot is 7 shades of awesome.

So, if that's the case and Hastings said it's a Chariot pulled by Eagles...that's a lot of Chariots for this army.
