Re: Is NOT taking a Prince w.Star Dragon to a tournament insane?

The number 1 ranked tournament player in Australia (under Australian comp and open lists) uses infantry high elves.

Re: how best to use the stardragon

I am a big believer in the Star Dragon. I just came back from the Australian MiniMe tournament (side event to the Australian masters) and scored 5 wins out of 6 and came 12th. My only loss was mitigated by the Star Dragon being the only thing that could rip into the vamps I lost to. I kitted out my ...

Re: Is cavalry necessary against Dwarfs?

Take it with a pinch of salt as I play in the Aus scene where people don't take maxed lists, but I have won my last 4 games against dwarfs (good players too) with no cav. Mostly I am dealing with 3 warmachines, 2 bolties and 1 organ gun. Also a gyro. Plus generally 2 units of quarrellers. I am runni...

Re: Pit of Shades & a Dragon

Sorry Stormie, I see where you are going with it, but I can't agree with you. Your logic holds up until the point when you are allocating the "best" stat. You seem to interpret that monstrous mount is completely separate from its character rider - it does, after all, have its own statline ...

Re: Warhammer 7.1 in 2010

I really can't see there being a new edition, there are too many army books that are still to be done. i think GW may have dropped the ball on their poor release schedule (getting a third fantasy army out this year should have been a minimum), but then Space Marines keep the company afloat, so who c...

Re: Skaven and all their anti-elf stuff!

Sage words from RE.Lee, well reasoned. I am starting Skaven as my second army, been plotting it over the last year or so, but was waiting for the new models before I started painting. It'll be a few years before I can play them though - I don't play with unpainted models. I've been over the list and...

Apologies for the off-topic, but I have to agree with Swiftswordmaster. The drop rocks causes hits, not shooting attacks. The reason for the FAQ is for questions like randomisation (they randomise like shooting attacks) and items like lion cloaks that give improved armour saves from shooting attacks.

I play daemons in a similar way to how I play Lizardmen, divert, divert, divert, and shoot and magic the snot out of them. Use your dragon if you have one to mop up what it can mop up (most standard daemon unit apart from Nurgle) but play cagey. If you have a wall of nurgle, then your dragon's breat...

Re: Tournament thoughts - High Elves

Absolutely, for example special characters are generally banned in Australian tournaments. By proxy, they are banned in most pick-up games too, as people want to practise with / hone their tournament lists. I don't go to tournaments, but the majority of my club do, so we play to the rules of the tou...

Re: Enemy of the Month August: Lizardmen

When talking about the temple guard slann, I didn't mean that we couldn't win a combat, just that we won't break them, with their 3 dice stubborn leadership with re-rolls. And given the temple guard is most likely going to be bunkering at the back, do you really want to march a load of Pheonix Guard...

Re: Enemy of the Month August: Lizardmen

I have found the new Lizzie book really hard, 2 draws and 2 losses. The first draw was only against a new Lizzie player (but experienced warhammer player) who let his one steg get charged by my DPs. Personally I don’t think we will ever get a massacre against lizards, and we should aim for minor vic...

Re: Your favourite WFB:AB Writer

I guess there are two questions here, which is the nicest book, and which is the "best" list. Now the book feel will come down to preference to what you like (personally I really liked the feel of the Skaven book for its time, but it looks a bit crappy compared to 7th ed books). I guess th...

Re: Magic is dead to me.

I can’t help but throw my hat into the ring on the side that magic is lacklustre at best. Ignoring Teclis (as no-one uses special characters where I play), there isn’t much to the HE magic phase. Lets do some simple scenarios, based around a Lvl 4 and Lvl 2, RoF, BoH and BoS. At best, you will come ...

Re: Which spells in the game do you think are too powerful??

You have to consider the games across a tournament, say about 5 games. If you have a comp score of 0-2 on this system, it makes it very hard to win, you would need close to 20-0 just about every match to overcome other generals doing well at the same time as you. As the tournament progresses, and yo...

Re: Which spells in the game do you think are too powerful??

Comp is an interesting issue. There have been lots of developments over here in the Aussie scene, and there are probably 5 or so models of comp out there doing the rounds in the many tournaments on offer over here. As a starting point, special characters and DoW allies (excluding the DoW army) are n...

Re: Why Do You Play High Elves?

I picked up high elves sometime in 4th ed (I think, I get confused by eds). I was playing dwarfs and then the newly released high elf Ellyrion Reavers came out. I thought the models were so nice, along with the rest of the range at the time, that I thought I would pick them up as an army to paint wh...

Re: Do we have any "hard" builds for tournaments?

I have a question around the DPs and Battle Banner combo. In about 10 games where I have used this combo, I have one precisely 1 combat of any note. Sometimes I have deployed poorly and not used them well, particularly when trapped by tree singing. Sometimes they have been shot up, or magic’d up. So...

Noble with RBTs?

Just want to put one out there for comment if people have any experience, Mouseketeer on the WargamerAU forums has proposed sticking a noble with the Reaver bow with one of his RBT crews, and deploying the RBTs relatively close together. The noble's job is to flick between the crews and deter flyers...

Re: The Glorious Return of SH's

The SCR SH vs 7 DPs is a question of just that, SCR. More dice is great and all, but if you want to avoid rubber lance syndrome, then 2x5 SHs give you that option. Its not one I would necessarily take, but its an option nevertheless. In the same way it is an option to "bunker" a mounted ma...

Re: The Glorious Return of SH's

a unit of 5x2 with warbanner can be very effective in the right situations. It is a mobile SCR platform, in many situations you will get +4 (Rank, Banner, Warbanner, Outnumber) before you start rolling. With thought you can add flank charges and negating enemies ranks. Then your 6 attacks on the cha...

See my post in Hero's tactica - I love taking a noble in a unit of 6x3 WLs. Gives 9 Str 6 attacks that generally hit on 3s. You can add some sacred incense, or the amulet of fire (think this is the one that gives MR2) if you want, or go the whole hog and Killing Blow your noble up with the ToL, if y...

Re: High Elves - Playing to Win, Part 1 - Lords and Heroes

A quick note on heroes not being BSB. I find a hero in a WL unit deployed 6x3 is very powerful. It will allow 9 Str 6 attacks, usually hitting on 3s, always strike first - that is 5 wounds on average at -3 against up to toughness 4 opponents. That with the rank and a banner should turn over most uni...

Thank you for your effort. One request as you go forward, could you make sure you deal with the sections on army selection and opponents with a non-special character option? There is no reason to suppose that you aren't going to do that, but thought I would get my request in early. Both my regular g...

I refer back to the point about hand weapon and shield. I always give my opponent the benefit of hand weapon and shield combo when charged by a chariot (though I try to not charge in the front!). I kind of see where you are going with Metal, but it is a big investment to take down a treeman, when Fire can do similar and be more versatile against the low armour troops.

Also, why would the dragon take double wounds from flaming attacks, or did you just mean that bit for the treeman?
