Re: Mark of War - Gav Thorpe Kickstarter
This looks kind of cool. To people saying "why bother," it appeals to me because I have a hard time getting in actual warhammer games these days. None of my friends are wargamers, and I need to drive a bit under two hours to get to my nearest decent hobby store where I can game. There's no...

Re: Expectations to a 9th ed
I still have this pipe dream I've had as long as I've played warhammer that it will become more centered on basic troops and movement to win, rather than spells-of-death and super units. While still making allowances for respectably awesome dragons here and there. I spent a so much timing wanting a ...

Re: New VC models
This really makes me want to start up a VC army... which is sad, because I haven't even finished painting my HE army (or even had the chance to get a single game in over the last month.... the last thing I need is a second expensive bunch of pretty plastic men sitting around my closet right now). Ev...

Re: Warhammer
I agree with some of your stuff... magic being potentially a game winner for one. That constantly irritates me (although the unreliable nature of magic sets it off in game-play terms, the fact that it's there at all just annoys me). I'd much rather play a game with limited magic or - even better for...

Shooty Anvil Army
So I read Krysith's mobile/shooting army thoughts that got posted up in the links, and enjoyed it a lot. I know he said he was having more success with a shooty anvil style list he had just started with, and I guess this is about a year ago now. I was wondering if anyone plays lists of that sort (su...

Re: Someone sell me on Swordmasters
A lot of the reasoning behind picking white lions that I'm seeing here centers on their cloaks protecting them from light arms fire - which is true and a really nice bonus. What if you're designing an army that's going to be (hopefully) forcing the enemy to come to you though, and you're picking you...

Eagles and Reavers
I see a lot of understandable praise for eagles, but somewhat less for reavers. How do these two units compare? Am I correct in thinking that they more or less fill the same roles? Reavers are more expensive... but they do get a few extra wounds in a unit. Which is both good and bad I suppose. Less ...

Yeah, what's ETC? I know it's some sort of tournament with some sort of special comp (i think?), but I've been curious about what exactly it stands for, and what the rules are, since I've seen it used a bunch.

Re: How do you deal with cheaters in Warhammer?
we have all accidently cheated when rushing at tournaments sometimes of that im sure This too. It's important to realize that there are a great many people who haven't read the entire rule book (because, really, you can play pretty well with just a few basics). When I started warhammer way back in ...

Re: How do you deal with cheaters in Warhammer?
Anyways, I just absolutely hate getting up in somone's face in the middle of game I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing... it's reasonably dignified and, usually, the right approach as far as I'm concerned. Needless shouting arguments about plastic models are silly and don't get anyone anywh...

General Playstyle Idea - Thoughts?
Any of you more experienced players know if the following idea could be, broadly, usable? Obviously it's not completely static and you change what you do based on who/what you play, but the gist of it is... 2500ish points 2 mages (one an archmage) to give you as much control of the magic phase as yo...

Re: Averlorn Army - with Sigvald conversion tips.
That's very nice, as has been said. I'll say it again just cause. I think the treeman is a bit big for a unit filler though, unless, perhaps, you were using a truly large horde formation unit of spears. But in anything more normal size I think he's going to take up too much space, not to mention too...

Re: Brian Mages Elves - My Eagles
This is so nicely painted... it makes me want to try and paint my own guys in the same fashion, although I'm sure I won't be able to and will fall short if I try (resulting in all sorts of regret.... because it's much easier imo to get an "ok" painted white/red or white/green typical color...

Re: Archers in a sea-guar list
Ooh. Shadow warriors could be a fun way to cover the 30 inch range. I've never actually used them either in the past, so I just didn't think about it. But that's a fun idea. Would be nice to play with scouts a bit too. I think I remember someone here posting about how much fun they had with a relati...

Re: Archers in a sea-guar list
No particularly good reason for using sea guard as my core beyond "I want to." I've made too many lists where I was just concerned about optimizing everything in earlier editions, and just want to play with some relaxed theming for a change of pace. That said, I still want to do as well as...

Archers in a sea-guar list
Do they have a place? They aren't the best of troops, but that extra range seems potentially useful for some first turn shooting agains a war machine. Or possibly to help convince other armies with 24 inch shooting to take a step towards you rather than you having to take a step towards them. Maybe ...

Hey all. I'm not entirely new around here, there was a point when I was on a lot a few years back. After a leave of absence I've come back to my High Elves though. By default, somewhat. I was thinking of starting up a new army, but prices have risen so much in the last few years that I ended up deci...

Re: Dragon mage & archmage on dragon in 8th
+1 to an AS of awful is still awful. :( What's more worrying is that missile units can be bigger/get more shots, so it's a good deal easier to shoot him off the top of his dragon if you're not really careful about position (which means your opponent can do a lot to dictate your position, so long as ...

Re: Dragon mage & archmage on dragon in 8th
if there wont be any fire sword spell or similar i think dragon mage will be gone, even in fluff games :/ I don't know about that. Usually I wouldn't even default to sword of ruin, and would just use my DM to generate a ton of extra power dice/spells if I'm doing a magic heavy list. (Let's face it,...

Re: High ElvesVs Dark Elves in 8th Edition
I remember the manager saying that among the other things the day he started talking about what was in the book recently (which was the same day other US managers in my area revealed their little copies of the rules, so it seemed legit enough to me). That said, I haven't seen the book yet myself, so...

Re: High ElvesVs Dark Elves in 8th Edition
Also, no one's mentioned that in 8th you can always wound on a six. That means a big unit of LSG all unloading on a large target within 24" for a turn or two would be pretty likely to do something useful. A lot of big monsters don't have the greatest armor saves. Or we can shoot and wound t7+ a...

Re: 8th edition news topic
Assuming this is true and then combined with improved bow fire, looks like our Reavers and Great Eagles may be near pointless to field due to their drastically reduced role options. Still useful for sticking infront of your opponents units at odd angles to force charges, or to go after warmachines....

Re: 8th edition news topic
If these are the models in the starter set, I think it's very cool. The elf force is nicely themed, which would convey an aspect of the hobby that can easily get lost on some people. Now... I'm not saying themed armies are "right", or anything. But I think it's a good move on GW's part to ...

Re: 8th Edition - Silverhelms make a return?
S'what I was thinking. Funny, since I just started them to take a break from my elves ~.~. Maybe Brettonians will get a rule that goes around that in exchange for the current "no -1 move for barding" rule. It'd obviously be a much better benefit, but an all cavalry army that's made up of r...

Re: Enemy of the Month: April, Beastmen
I've only had one game against the new beasman. It was at 1750, so there were no big lords or anything. I practically won the game in one turn with terror. Granted, there was an unusually high amount of bad leadership rolls, but my dragon mage flew into the center of the army and out of everyone's c...

Aww. I'd been holding my breath for days, and you didn't even take the blade of sea gold :( . Grats on winning though. Nice flee/countercharges. Definitely managed to showcase how Brettonians can get hurt badly by some judiciously-applied magic. I think just one dispel scroll in his 2250 list wasn't...

Re: 1600 Point list
Dragon mages aren't necesarily awful. I find that they're best at lower point values anyways (although I'd take them with the banner of sorcery, ring of fury, and a level two mage as well, so you can usually take over the magic phase ~1500. I'm not sure if you can get away with that when you're rest...
