Re: Tyrion the Invincible?
He's much easier to KB now though.
I don't think he's worth it actually. He's expensive as he is, adding 2 mages for the sake of buffing him makes him even more costly.
I'd run him "as-is", or in a unit with BotWD, nothing more.

Re: Loremaster - the centre of your magic phase or supporting?
A Archmage (lvl 4) with High Magic, Book of Hoeth, Talisman of Preservation, and a Loremaster with Armour of Caledor, Dawnstone and Dispel Scroll will be the center of my list when I want to go magic heavy. The Loremaster will be the general and if possible, hang out in a unit with the Standard of D...

Re: Furion's thoughts on the new armybook and cost of units
Only thing I would disagree with is Mages, they are too expensive for 85pts, they're S3 T3 no saves of any kind for a LvL1 and the only benefit of +1 to cast for one lore, should have been 70pts and +30pts for lvl2 I'd be fine with this if we we're ever to play each other. But then I would also tak...

No they can't march, for the same reason you don't see marching Necrosphinxes, marching Carrions, marching flying Black Coaches, etc.

The 6+ parry regardless of weapon proved to be false.
But then, it's pretty easy to get a 6+ ward on most of our units anyway (Dragonarmour, Anointed, Lore attribute from High magic)

To be fair though, I wouldn't mind if that was the intent. The good armies, especially High Elves, needs more friends. ;) Perhaps Lizardmen come out and help for a total 'mindblown'-moment? They are the two good races that doesn't really have a true friend. Empire and Dwarfs are 'friends'. (And Kisl...

I think the majority here are underestimating the magical prowess and intelligence of a Vampire, especially if that Vampire is Mannfred von Carstein.
While that piece of fluff is awfully written, I find the general idea/story behind it is quite interesting.

If the way a rule works is uncertain, and it will either benefit you more (stack) or benefit you less (doesn't stack), I'd always go with "benefit you less". If/when the FAQ comes, it's better to have cheated yourself than to have cheated your opponent. Ofcourse, this is just my personal o...

Ahh, I thought you considered VC to be the "best book" in terms of power. WoC for example is a god aweful written book, powerful yes indeed, horrible none the less. What's wrong with WoC? :( (In terms of fun that is. Powerlevel-wise it's only so high because of MoN, Soulfeeder and the Daem...

Really? No one has a bad word to say about the vc book, all the pod casts inclueed. I think you should pay a visit to the VC-forum. ;) ( http://www.vampirecounts.net/ ) It's a fun and 'good' book, but not without issues, and it's way to dependent on magic to be considered 'the best' book in terms o...

Re: The best book of 8th -- says me
It's not as good as the Vampire Book but it's a good second, the Empire book is a higher power but a worse book overall, totally killing off what Empire should have been. This is probably the first time I've seen anyone claim that VC is the best 8th Ed. armybook. :P Although I'm not sure if you spe...

Re: Furion's thoughts on the new armybook and cost of units
Empire pays less than our DPs for S4 knights with better armor, and I'll take the hit to movement. I get that DPs have a lot of expensive special rules, but these rules just aren't worth market value when they're added to a S3 T3 unit that's supposed to be a combat specialist. You'll take the hit t...

I can see this on a unit of 15-30 archers, joined by a Seahelm or Handmaiden.
Is it the most competitive choice? No.
Is it effective? Depends on who you're fighting.

Untill they FAQ it I'll play it that it's doesn't stack. (you can only freeze so much before you...die. )
But with that said, it's very unlikely that I play with 2 Frosthearts in the same list. I'd rather play with one of each.

Thanks for the replys, and I do agree with you guys after reading the rules more closely. Its a shame, goes from a great item to fairly pointless. How is a 4+ ward on foot vs anything but impact-hits, stomps and attacks from the flank/rear (that stacks with the lore-attribute most likely) for 15 po...

One cool idea I've had with the spell is for one of our greatest enemies: the Orcs and Goblins. Cast this spell on a unit and you can use that unit to move within 8" of Night Goblin units to release fanatics without any fear of damage. Even better, you can plonk the target down onto a Mangler ...

A 4+ (so 3+) ward will probably be enough for my Archmage.
My loremaster will be toting the Armour of Caledor, Dawnstone and a Dispellscroll.
Lvl 1-2 will most likely stay behind the lines with archers or something.

4+ ward (turns into 3+) vs. everything and 2+ ward vs. magic stuff gives you as rock solid of an anvil as you can possibly get. I do see what you mean on the wasted part, but if you're using PG as a denial/anvil type unit, I think BotWD is a great choice. Well, if you have no other unit (WL/SM) to ...

2) loremaster: i also feel he is a bit expensive, however he gives something unique to the army (knows the 8 signature spells). I like the combination with an archmage so the loremaster can take the scroll. I am thinking of fielding him with also armor of caledor and dawnstone for a pretty solid gu...

BotWD on Phoenix Guard feels like such a waste in my opinion. I guess I could see the point in that combination however, if you were to put a character (i.e Loremaster) with a bad/no ward in the same unit. Someone mentioned the "Armour of Caledor, Dawnstone, Dispellscroll"-combo on a Lorem...
