Re: How to kit out a noble on eagle
Star lance, great weapon, lion cloak, heavy armor, pot of fool, Magic shield (2++ against the first hit). Beast would be nice to have as a magic law but you cannot base our law round one model. If you had Teclis on the other hand ...... And I agree with the above, shadow warriors are not all that ba...

Re: Enemy of the month: Skaven
Doom Wheels, cannon which can fire into combat 3 times, random str, it is also a chariot so impact attacks. Shoot it in the first 2 turns and hope to get a W, as it then has to take a panic test and could run into its own units. Random movement, shoots the closest target. Will normally be out on the...

Even doing a few W's to a stank will change the way it plays so get those W's in early to reduce the effectiveness of this beast.

Re: Tournament Overview (Teclis Army)
I asked about the doom rocket, he looked it up in his army book and he said it was not magical. When I got charged by Caradryan I was down to 3 swordmasters. As for savage beasts, the best use was on the eagle noble, as Teclis was in the Swordmasters I don't have a problem with him being in the fron...

Re: How do you keep Teclis alive?
If your opp wants to kill him there is nothing you can do to stop him in the end, but the same can be said for any character. You know this and if he is hell bent on killing him then you can use it to your advantage. The best ways are smoke and mirrors, keep him on the edge of a unit or in the secon...

Re: Space hulk rerelease
OMG, what I cannot understand is why anybody would want it, it is the same as last time, G W really is just making no effort any more. Is there anything other then a couple of new missions and a little bit of card stock which is different from the last one? It is like the Simpsons episode where they...

Re: High Elves vs. Ogre Kingdom
No, that is not hell heart, that is a banner (rune maw) it stops all spell cast on that unit on a 2 + (I think), the hell heart causes a miscast on all enemy mages within a 6xD6 range, used at the start of your magic phase (normally turn 2), basically nerfs your phase as most miscasts cause you to l...

Re: High Elves vs. Ogre Kingdom
I don't recommend changing your list just to play one army, so find one which is well balanced against all and play that. As for ogres and how to play them in general, I see you have not mentioned Hell heart so he must not use it which is a good thing for you. To deal with his cannons you need to re...

Re: What do you consider gamey?
A few things that are gamey to me are: - A player that in the early turns tends to request/take leniency when applying the rules when it comes to their own actions (measuring ranges for shooting, movement, 1” separation, etc) and then later looks to follow rules to the letter for your actions; - A ...

Re: Help polishing off final HE army 2500 pts
What has been said above is all valid, but I would also add a unit champ in the units of archers for challenges, the archamge has no way to defend himself and that 1 extra turn the champ gets you in a challenge may be the difference between a win and a loss.

Re: What do you consider gamey?
Swordmaster, I respect you as a player and I think you have a sound tactical mind, but to compare taking a dive in soccer (which is clearly against the rules) and playing by the rules in Warhammer. In warhammer I would compare taking a dive to: weighting your dice, fudging about stats on your army, ...

Re: What do you consider gamey?
Where I disagre with you Mist is that Warhammer is not chess, it's based on a social contract. If I went to a foreign tournament for instance, I would try to fit in with the ethos there, instead of expecting the conventions used to be just like back home. I agree with you as well, there is a social...

Re: What do you consider gamey?
What you call tricks is what others call rules, if you charge in with your Star dragon with prince with star lance on its own, and get challenged by a unit champion, kill him and have the unit hold on steadfast with BsB rerolls, and then counter charged next turn is this gamey or just good/bad play?...

Re: What do you consider gamey?
About 25 years ago I used to play a game called panzerfaust, a WW2 miniature game with tanks and infantry, we played hidden movement, timed games (2.5 hours) with judges at all tables. There was one player who used a British army (small guns and lots of units) and he did things I considered gamey. W...

Re: What do you consider gamey?
You missed double flee. In my opp, if it is in the rules, you play by them, gamey is when you bend the rules to your advantage, not when you play the rules as written. People only think of it as gamey when they have never seen it before. Conga lines however is one that is a grey area, but you can ha...

Re: Suggestions for a new player?
Well first off 2 x level 4 archmages is one to many, they will spend all game fighting over magic dice. Give him the book and 4++ save Make the swordmasters bigger. Reavers should have only a muso (fast cav), the standard is to easy to claim and the hero offers nothing to the unit. Do you hav...

Lets look at what he has. S2 T2. Ld 10. No saves of any kind. Level 5 magic user. Gets one spell from each of the 8 laws or law master of high. Dispel scroll which can remove an enemy spell from the game, Staff which can remove one miscast or add a dice to each spell cast that turn. Sword, always W ...

Re: Returning Veteran: High Elf 2500 pts
with the dragon helm, by all means take it but save the points and take heavy armor and not dragon armor, for the same result.
Yes it can be a problem with all the good choices we have (most of the new armies have better choices now), you just have to get a style and then work the list around it

Re: Returning Veteran: High Elf 2500 pts
Your archamge build, the other tricksters shard in the P.Guard will not be good, all models in base contact will re-roll ward saves, this means yours as well. The shard works best on a loan character on an eagle/dragon normally with the star lance. The best all round build is still the book and Tal ...

this is the link for the topic I mentioned earlier.
You will need at least 2 re-directors (I use 2 in my 2500pt list)
