Re: Is it any good

I played a number of games very early on with the gaming group I used to play WHFB. We used a system of points created in house because the games could be so unbalanced. We also came up with some scenarios and different battlefields. Personally, I wasn't terribly impressed. Granted, this was early o...

Online campaign how? I'd certainly love something to keep the interaction up with folks on the site. Having never participated before since I was primarily focused on live gaming, I'd be interested.

I believe it would be Ptolemy's army.

I could be wrong, but I remember this army being stunning and winning an award at a GT.

Glad you've rediscovered your mojo Jimmy! :) On the financial success of AoS, I honestly don't know what to believe. Here's a thread putting the anti case: http://warhammer.org.uk/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=134671 Some very interesting figures in that thread. The fact that royalty revenue is boo...

Whoa. Godfather Part II in "lackluster".. Bold. Must disagree. Same with Terminator II. Major improvement over Terminator. Hell the original was confused - you had no real idea about why a time traveling robot was coming back to kill her. Two basically gave you the why. Now, I'm not fan of...

Thanks Aicanor. I really appreciate it. I really enjoyed doing them, but as I said, the motivation really dropped off with the whole AoS debacle.

Re: Star Wars (Spoilers)

The problem that I had with the movie was that they tried to explain too many backstories in too little time. What made the original trilogy fantastic was that you followed one character ... got his story, and the other characters supported that character. You learned more and more about the villai...

Re: Interesting GW numbers

I think also AoS is more visible because GW is throwing its weight behind it, and Twitter, Instagram and the blogosphere was no where near as sophisticated in the 2000's. The last 5-6 years have seen a huge increase in social media and marketing campaigns heavily relying on it. It may make it seem l...

Re: Star Wars (Spoilers)

Overall I thought the movie was good. It achieved what I thought it needed to achieve - which was make me forget Episodes 1-3 happened and start us on a new journey with new characters. It was flawed, not going to lie, but it felt like Star Wars. That was something I cannot say for the Episodes 1-3....

Re: Interesting GW numbers

The most interesting thing in the whole AoS release is, in my opinion, that for the game of WH it probably would have been better if GW had gone backrupt then what happened now. Now, by how they released AoS, GW pretty much killed WH overnight. For some reason a lot of people decided to stop playin...

GW Artist: Sir, I don't think we can find any more places for skulls. GW Executive: I have a fever, and the only prescription is more skulls! Artist: Sir? Executive: I gotta have more skulls! Artist: But how Sir? Executive: Skull thrones, skull cloaks, skull armor. 12 year olds cannot resist skulls.

Re: Secret Santa 2015 - SIGN UP (open till August 31st)

Honestly my motivation for any hobby time related to GW or WHFB has largely dropped off a cliff due to AoS. It's not that I think my models and armies are worthless, but so much of my hobby desire went toward imagining these models on the table being in battles. Now... I just have a hard time envisi...

Re: Effective use of tank units in AoS (from HobbyKiller blo

I'm going to concur with Shannar. With AoS it really is how can I move my models within this amorphous blob of a unit to most disadvantage the opponent. At least with 8th, or fixed units size/formation, units couldn't change shape on the fly. AoS tends to be more about charging space instead of a fi...

Re: How has AoS done in your area?

It's getting more traction at my LGS. I'm participating in a league with the same group of guys who I had participated in the 8th edition leagues. They've heavily comped and tested a system that seems to make AoS work well enough. The sentiment tends to be "it's a new system so it's entertainin...

Re: AoS - Reasons Behind It, Where GW plans to take it

So that explanation sounds a lot like Scientology's strategy (tragedy?) to get believers (suckers) into spending more and more money...

Kind of sad actually. We've just become a stepping stone to 40k instead of a stand alone game. Full circle.

Re: Warscrolls

I dunno. No flee baiting or complex strategic movement just seems lacking. It really does seem like GW's intent is mash your units towards each other and roll dice! The sad part is this game will have it's own "tactics", and after a year or two people will think they are just as good. Als...

Re: Warscrolls

I've read everything and I just don't know what to make of it. Magic is effectively gone. Magic made it fantasy... Ugh. The winds of magic were wild but this system is awful. What makes the game balanced is purely down to coming to agreement or house ruling the game prior to a game. So 15-30 minutes...

Wow. Just wow. There's just no "fantasy" aesthetic at all.
Well, space marines have always had chapters....
But they do at least have different insignia - sort of. These are just different colors, it's kind of pathetic.

Re: 9th Edition rumours

I think it's the aesthetics SM. The Sigmar guys just scream 'Space Marines' and that's what most 40K players like. Plus if you are used to a skirmish system, it's an easier switch than to a massed-battle game. Yeah, I'm hearing possible battle rules too. Who knows? Pretty much what I was feeling. H...
